Programs that accept only raster images, such as print, publishing, or texture-processing workflows, require a rendered view of a GLB scene saved as TIFF. This conversion produces a 2D image, not a TIFF version of the original 3D geometry, materials, animation, or camera data.
What the GLB format is
GLB is the binary form of glTF, a 3D scene format that can package meshes, materials, textures, cameras, lights, and animations in one file. Blender, Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, CAD tools, game engines, and web-based 3D applications can create or export GLB files.
You commonly encounter GLB in browser-based 3D viewers, augmented-reality assets, product configurators, game pipelines, and files exported from Blender. A GLB is designed to be viewed and rendered as a scene; it is not itself a flat image.
What the TIFF format is
TIFF is a raster image format used for print production, archival images, texture editing, scientific imaging, and compositing. It supports lossless compression, alpha channels, and higher color depths such as 16 bits per channel, so it can preserve more tonal information than a typical JPEG.
TIFF is useful when a render must be edited in Photoshop, Affinity Photo, or another image application, placed in a print layout, or saved without JPEG artifacts. It can also store a rendered GLB image as a texture, but it cannot contain the original GLB scene structure.
How to actually convert GLB to TIFF
Using Blender
- Open Blender and choose File → Import → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf).
- Select the GLB file and import it. Check the Outliner and 3D Viewport to confirm that the mesh, materials, and textures loaded correctly.
- Set the view you want to export. For a controlled result, position a camera, select it, and use View → Cameras → Active Camera or press
Numpad 0. - Set lighting and the render engine in the Render Properties panel. The imported GLB may contain lights, but you may need to add an area light or use an environment texture for a usable render.
- Set the output resolution under Output Properties. Choose the desired color management settings under Color Management; 16-bit color is useful for later tonal correction when the selected Blender output supports it.
- In Output Properties, set File Format → TIFF, choose RGB or RGBA if transparency is needed, and select a TIFF compression option if available.
- Specify an output folder, then choose Render → Render Image or press
F12. - In the Render Result window, choose Image → Save As, confirm the
.tifor.tifffilename, and save the image.
Using 101convert.com
You can convert the file on 101convert.com for free without installing software. Because GLB is a 3D scene and TIFF is a 2D image, select any available camera, view, resolution, background, and image-quality options before starting the conversion. The exact controls depend on the converter's GLB renderer.
Quality and compatibility limitations
- A single TIFF contains one rendered viewpoint. It does not preserve GLB geometry, animation, cameras, lights, materials, or interactive rotation.
- The result depends on the selected camera, lighting, render engine, resolution, color management, and whether the GLB uses unsupported shaders or extensions.
- Transparent backgrounds require an alpha-enabled render and an RGBA TIFF. Some image viewers display such files against black or white even when the alpha channel is present.
- GLB textures are commonly embedded as PNG or JPEG images. If the objective is to obtain the original texture rather than render the model, import the GLB in Blender, select the image texture in the Image Editor, and use Image → Save As to write it as TIFF. This preserves the texture's pixels but does not convert the entire 3D model.
- TIFF files can be substantially larger than JPEG or PNG files, especially at high resolution or 16-bit color depth. Use lossless TIFF compression when supported; it reduces storage size without reducing image quality.
