Free online GLB to GIF converter

A GLB model must be rendered into images before it can be used as a GIF, because GIF stores 2D raster frames rather than 3D geometry. This conversion is useful for sharing a model preview in applications that do not support GLB, embedding a short animation on a webpage, or creating a lightweight visual reference.

What the GLB format is

GLB is the binary container form of glTF 2.0. It can store meshes, materials, textures, cameras, lights, and skeletal or keyframe animation in one file, which makes it common for web viewers, game engines, augmented-reality applications, and 3D asset delivery.

Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, and many CAD or game-development tools can export GLB files. You also encounter GLB files downloaded from online 3D libraries or generated by Three.js, Babylon.js, and other glTF-based pipelines.

What the GIF format is

GIF is a 2D image format that can contain a sequence of indexed-color frames. An animated GIF is suitable for short model turntables, interface previews, documentation, and platforms that accept GIF but do not display 3D files.

GIF supports at most 256 colors per frame, so it is less suitable than MP4 or WebM for detailed materials, gradients, shadows, and long animations. Its practical advantages are broad compatibility, simple embedding, and the ability to loop without a video player.

How to convert GLB to GIF

Convert online without installing software

1. Open the free converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .glb file and select GIF as the output format.
3. If frame, size, duration, or loop settings are available, choose a short frame rate and a moderate width such as 480–640 pixels.
4. Start the conversion, then download the generated .gif file.

The result is a rendered view of the model, not an editable 3D object. If the GLB has no animation, the converter can only produce a still image or repeated identical frames unless it provides a rotation or camera-animation option.

Convert with Blender and FFmpeg

1. Open Blender and choose File → Import → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf).
2. Check the imported scene for an animation. For a static model, add a camera and keyframe a turntable rotation around the object.
3. In Output Properties, set the resolution, frame range, and frame rate. A 2–4 second preview at 12–15 frames per second keeps the GIF smaller.
4. Set the output format to PNG, choose an output folder, and use Render → Render Animation. This produces numbered image frames such as frame0001.png.
5. Encode the frames with FFmpeg:

The palettegen and paletteuse filters usually produce cleaner colors than direct frame conversion. Change frame%04d.png if Blender uses a different filename pattern.

Quality and compatibility limits

• GIF has no native 3D data, selectable camera, materials, or interactive viewpoint; all of those are flattened during rendering.
• Transparent GLB materials do not translate reliably. GIF supports only simple one-bit transparency, so semitransparent edges may become jagged or acquire a solid background.
• Large dimensions, high frame rates, and long loops increase file size quickly. Reducing width, frame rate, duration, and color count has the greatest effect.
• Animated GLB files may contain skeletal actions, morph targets, or multiple animation clips. A converter must choose one clip or the active timeline; Blender lets you select and arrange the required action before rendering.
• GIF color banding is expected with metallic surfaces, soft lighting, and photographic textures. Use MP4 or WebM when the destination accepts video and visual quality matters more than GIF compatibility.
