How to convert memo to txt file

What is the memo to txt conversion, and what is its purpose?

The majority of .memo files come from the old Samsung Notes app, one of the many note-making apps that were introduced and later discontinued by Samsung on their smart phones. The apps changed names (Memo, Kies, Notes, S Notes, etc.), but all work pretty much the same.

What are the memo files?

According to online sources, these files were used in Samsung apps around 2014/2015, so nowadays they're often just old files found on old devices or backups. The reason why users look for export is that modern apps are unable to read the files properly, or users do not know how to transfer these to their new devices.

Individual notes are saved in a zip-compressed archive that contains the main body of the note in XML format, along with any multimedia attachments that are kept in a separate media folder. This means that you can simply decompress the memo file as any common ZIP archive (change the extension if you need) and look for the main .xml file. When you open that using any text editor, just search and copy out any text you want. If you need to recover pictures that were part of the note, check out the media folder.

Is recovery of old memo files possible in the latest Samsung Notes?

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Based on user experiences, it almost feels like hit or miss, depending on the device or app that was made to save the note. The typical procedure is to sync your files through the Samsung Cloud and then try to open the old files using your new device.
