About Samsung Memo

Samsung Memo app is a versatile and user-friendly application designed for Samsung smartphone users to conveniently create, manage, and store notes. Its default file type is .memo, used exactly as .snb in previously offered apps, such as S Note. It was available for Samsung Galaxy S6 and other Samsung devices around 2015.

In 2016, all the previously available apps were replaced by a single app, Samsung Notes (which uses .sdocx files). Unfortunately, this app no longer supports all previously used formats. This is actually one of the main reasons why users are looking for memo to pdf conversion in the first place.

MEMO format

The .memo file, like its predecessors and successors, is a ZIP package that contains a separate XML file and other media files (usually pictures).

How to print Samsung Memo files to PDF

The process of exporting .memo files to PDF depends largely on whether you are a Samsung user or not. To make things more complicated for Samsung users, it's a question of whether you have access to the original device (and thus the app) or not.

Exporting memo files to PDF for Samsung users with an old device

This is really simple for Samsung users because the Memo app imports and exports PDF files. You can export notes to PDF by following these steps:

  1. Open the Samsung Notes app and open the note you wish to export to PDF format.
  2. Tap More options (the three vertical dots), then tap the Save as file option.
  3. Tap PDF file and select the location where you wish your files to be saved.
  4. If needed, download the PDF to your computer or send it via any available means, including e-mail, messengers, the cloud, etc.

Ways how to access and export .memo files for Samsung users without an old phone but a new Samsung phone

This can be incredibly difficult and often leads to the last option covered later. There are still a few things you can try out before dissecting the .memo file manually.

Samsung uses a cloud account system for syncing content. Thus, it is sometimes possible to import previously synced notes back into the modern app (usually from settings or some import from the cloud option). The success largely depends on which app in particular that was and which version of Samsung Notes, or whatever the future replacement might be. Often, only a certain portion of saved notes or memos are imported properly, if any.

If that fails, you really have only one remaining option to recover and print .memo files.

Steps on how to print Samsung Memo notes for non-Samsung users

Sometimes, people send you .memo files without thinking you cannot open them. Or you lost your original Samsung device and switched to another brand, so you can no longer access the Samsung Memo app.

This can be frustrating because no third-party apps can read .memo files. The Memo app is the only way to view or print them in PDF format. But not all is lost.

Since the .memo file is essentially a ZIP archive and the main body of the note is saved in XML format, you must follow a few steps to successfully print at least the text.

  1. First, download your file if you do not already have it on your computer. Windows users must download and install the Samsung Smart Switch, while Mac users can use the Android File Transfer app.
  2. Once you have your .memo file on your computer, rename the .memo suffix to .zip and extract the content.
  3. Locate the main XML file. The name can vary slightly depending on the version, but it's the big one in the main folder.
  4. Open an XML editor, find the text you wish to preserve, and export it to PDF. You can copy it to another editor or remove unwanted clutter directly in the XML editor.
  5. Use PDF export or a virtual PDF printer to export text to PDF format.
