Free online VSD to PNG converter

A VSD drawing often needs conversion when a recipient lacks Microsoft Visio or when the diagram must be inserted into a document, presentation, website, or image archive. PNG provides a widely supported rendered image, but it does not retain the original diagram's editing structure.

What the VSD format is

VSD is Microsoft Visio's legacy binary drawing format for flowcharts, organization charts, network diagrams, process maps, and other technical diagrams. Visio 2013 and earlier commonly used VSD as the default format; newer Visio versions normally use the XML-based .vsdx format but can open and save VSD files.

A VSD file can contain multiple pages, shapes, connectors, text, layers, hyperlinks, and embedded objects. It is designed for diagram editing, not general image viewing.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a lossless raster image format that preserves sharp text, lines, and flat-color areas better than lossy formats such as JPEG. PNG files open in web browsers, office applications, image viewers, and operating systems without Visio.

PNG is suitable for sharing a fixed visual copy, publishing a diagram on a web page, placing it in a report or presentation, and storing a page as an image. It does not preserve editable shapes, connectors, layers, hyperlinks, Visio metadata, or other diagram structure.

How to convert VSD to PNG

With Microsoft Visio

1. Open the .vsd file in the desktop version of Microsoft Visio.
2. Select the page to export. A multi-page drawing normally requires a separate PNG for each page.
3. Use File → Save As or File → Export, depending on the Visio version, and choose PNG Portable Network Graphics as the file type.
4. Choose the output folder and filename, then confirm the export options. If available, set the image resolution or pixel dimensions, background color, and transparency.
5. Open the PNG and check small labels, arrowheads, page borders, and objects near the page edge for clipping or layout changes.

Visio exports the selected or active drawing page as a rendered image. If the required page is not active before export, the result may contain a different page than expected.

Without installing desktop software

Quality and compatibility limits

PNG output is rasterized. Enlarging a low-resolution export can make text and lines appear soft; choose larger pixel dimensions or a higher resolution for printing and large displays instead of scaling the PNG later.

Rendering depends on installed fonts. A missing font can change text wrapping, spacing, and label positions, so inspect the image for overlaps and altered line breaks.

Non-Visio converters may change custom shapes, OLE or other embedded objects, transparency effects, hyperlinks, and Visio-only features. Keep the original VSD as the editable source, and use a vector or PDF export instead when later scaling or print quality is more important than PNG compatibility.
