What the MINDNODE format is

.mindnode is MindNode's native document format for mind maps and related diagrams. MindNode creates these files on macOS, iPhone, and iPad; a document can contain the map hierarchy, themes, notes, links, images, tasks, and other editable properties. The format is intended for continued editing in MindNode, not for direct use as a general-purpose image.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a lossless raster image format supported by web browsers, office applications, presentation software, image viewers, and most operating systems. It is suitable for mind maps containing text, lines, icons, and flat colors because it does not introduce JPEG-style compression artifacts. A PNG is a non-editable visual export: the map structure, notes, links, and MindNode styling data are not retained as separate objects.

How to convert MINDNODE to PNG

Using MindNode on a computer

1. Open the .mindnode file in MindNode.
2. Select the map or document you want to export.
3. Choose File → Export To → PNG.
4. Choose the destination and confirm the export. MindNode writes an image containing the visible map.
5. Open the resulting .png file in an image viewer to check that the complete map and small labels are readable.

Using the online converter

1. Open the MINDNODE-to-PNG converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .mindnode file.
3. Start the conversion and download the generated .png file when processing finishes.

This option does not require MindNode or other installed software. Use MindNode's own export when the document contains features that an online converter may not reproduce exactly.

Using MindNode on iPhone or iPad

1. Open the document in MindNode.
2. Use the document's share or export command and select PNG as the output format, if available in the installed version.
3. Save the image to Files or Photos, or send it to another application.

Quality and compatibility considerations

PNG resolution depends on the export settings and the map's dimensions. A large mind map may produce a very wide or tall image; inspect it at 100% before printing or placing it in a document. If labels become too small, export at a larger scale or split the map into branch-level images rather than enlarging a low-resolution PNG afterward.

PNG preserves the rendered appearance, but it does not preserve MindNode's expandable branches, notes, hyperlinks, task data, or editable layout. Keep the original .mindnode file when future editing is required. PNG files can also be substantially larger than compressed document formats, especially when the map has a large canvas or many embedded images.
