What the MINDNODE format is

.mindnode is MindNode’s native document format for mind maps, outlines, and flowcharts. MindNode creates these files on macOS, iPhone, and iPad; a document can contain node hierarchy, notes, tasks, links, images, themes, and other map metadata. The file is intended to be reopened in MindNode, so ordinary text editors generally cannot display it as a usable outline.

What the TXT format is

.txt is a plain-text format supported by virtually every operating system, editor, search tool, and programming language. It is useful for copying node content into email, documentation, databases, scripts, and long-term archives because it has no application-specific layout or licensing requirement. TXT cannot represent MindNode’s canvas positioning, colors, icons, images, attachments, or most task and styling information.

How to convert MINDNODE to TXT

Using MindNode

1. Open the .mindnode document in MindNode.
2. Choose File → Export → Plain Text or the equivalent export command in your MindNode version.
3. Select an output location and save the result with a .txt extension.
4. Open the exported file in a text editor and check that the node indentation and character encoding are correct.

If your MindNode version does not offer plain-text export, export the map as Markdown or OPML first, then convert that intermediate file to TXT with a local editor or conversion utility. Markdown usually preserves an outline more clearly than OPML when the final destination is intended for human reading.

Quality and compatibility limits

The conversion is a content extraction, not a visual reproduction. The useful result normally consists of node titles arranged as an indented hierarchy; map geometry, branch colors, images, summaries, hyperlinks, and embedded files may be omitted or reduced to ordinary lines. MindNode documents containing private notes or attachments should be reviewed before uploading or distributing the converted file. For reliable interchange, use UTF-8 when an encoding option is available, because it preserves accented characters and non-Latin scripts.
