A drawio file is best when you need to keep the diagram fully editable. It is not ideal for sharing as a final image, because recipients may need the diagrams.net editor to make changes.

How to convert drawio to png

The best method is to export the diagram from diagrams.net. If you already have the file open in the editor, use File → Export as → PNG. In the export dialog, you can usually choose options such as:

• Crop to remove extra whitespace
• Transparent background if you need the image to blend into a page or slide
• Border width if you want padding around the diagram
• Scale or zoom to control output size and resolution

Then save the exported image as .png.

Notes on quality and limitations

PNG is raster-based, so it does not stay infinitely scalable like the original editable diagram. If you export at too low a scale, text and lines may look blurry when enlarged. For best results, export at a higher resolution or scale factor, especially for diagrams with small labels.

Because PNG is an image format, the exported file will not preserve diagram editability, layers, or object structure. If you need future edits, keep the original drawio file as well. Also note that very large diagrams can produce large PNG files, and transparency may not be supported by every destination application even though PNG itself supports it.
