Notes on quality, compatibility, or limitations

SVG is an excellent target for diagrams, but there are a few important caveats. Some drawio features, such as interactive editing data, comments, or certain diagram-specific metadata, do not carry over into SVG because SVG is primarily a presentation format. If your diagram uses fonts that are not available on the viewing system, text layout may shift slightly unless fonts are embedded or converted to outlines by the exporter.

Also, very complex diagrams can produce large SVG files, especially if they contain many shapes, gradients, or embedded images. If the diagram includes raster images, those images remain raster inside the SVG and will not become vector automatically. For best results, use SVG when you need scalable, publication-ready output, and keep the original .drawio file if you need to edit the diagram later.
