Convert SH3D to PDF

People convert an SH3D project to PDF when a floor plan must be shared, printed, submitted, or archived on a device that does not have Sweet Home 3D. The PDF preserves a fixed page layout, while the original SH3D file remains necessary for later editing.

What the SH3D format is

SH3D is the native project format of Sweet Home 3D, an interior-design application used by homeowners, planners, and designers to draw rooms, place furniture, add dimensions, and inspect a model in 3D. The project stores the home layout, furniture placement, room properties, materials, viewpoints, and other application data; it is not directly renderable by ordinary PDF software.

Sweet Home 3D opens SH3D files on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Imported furniture models and textures are normally stored with the project, but keep the original SH3D file and any separately referenced resources when transferring a project.

What the PDF format is

PDF is a fixed-layout document format designed to preserve page size, text, graphics, and print positioning across operating systems. It is suitable for distributing a floor plan, printing measurements, sending a furniture schedule, or keeping a non-editable presentation copy.

A PDF contains rendered pages rather than the editable walls, furniture objects, materials, and camera settings in the SH3D project. PDF annotations or graphics may be editable in some PDF applications, but they do not restore the original Sweet Home 3D model.

How to convert an SH3D file to PDF

Sweet Home 3D's built-in PDF command is the preferred method because it can print the plan and, depending on the version and selected options, a furniture list and 3D view.

1. Open the project in Sweet Home 3D with File → Open, then select the .sh3d file.
2. Set the 2D plan to the required state. Adjust zoom and scale, show or hide furniture, room names, dimensions, and other annotations, and set the desired 3D view if it will be included.
3. Choose File → Print to PDF. In the print settings, select the paper size, orientation, margins, scale, page range, and output sections available in your version, such as the home plan, furniture list, and 3D view.
4. Review the page preview or generated pages for clipped labels, missing objects, unsuitable page breaks, and unreadable scale. Choose a larger paper size or multiple pages if necessary.
5. Enter a filename such as floor-plan.pdf and save the PDF.

If File → Print to PDF is not present, choose File → Print and send the job to a PDF printer: Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows, Save as PDF in the macOS print dialog, or a configured PDF printer such as CUPS-PDF on Linux. The exact menu names vary by Sweet Home 3D release and operating system.

For a separate high-resolution 3D image, use Sweet Home 3D's photo-rendering feature first, save the result as an image, and then print that image to PDF or combine it with the plan using a PDF application. A small source image can look pixelated when enlarged.

Quality and compatibility limits

Plan lines and text generally print sharply, but output readability depends on page size, scale, margins, and the number of pages. A complete plan forced onto one small page may make dimensions and room labels illegible; use tiled pages or larger paper when measurements matter.

Check that furniture, dimensions, room labels, and the selected 3D view are visible before saving. Printing a 3D view produces a static rendering, not an interactive model.

There is no broadly supported, reliable online SH3D-to-PDF converter. Generic document converters and office applications usually cannot interpret Sweet Home 3D's project format, and uploading a private home layout to an unfamiliar service creates a privacy risk. Open the file in Sweet Home 3D and create the PDF locally; use the SH3D file for future changes.
