What the PNG format is
PNG is a lossless raster-image format used for screenshots, scanned pages, exported sheet music, and web images. Music-scanning applications, scanners, MuseScore exports, notation software, and image editors can create PNG files. A PNG stores pixels rather than musical objects: staff lines, noteheads, clefs, rests, lyrics, and dynamics are visible but have no inherent musical meaning.
For recognition, use a clean, upright image at 300–600 dpi when possible. Crop out unrelated margins, remove shadows and compression artifacts, and keep all notation symbols visible.
What the MUSICXML format is
MusicXML is an XML-based interchange format for symbolic music notation. It represents measures, pitches, durations, voices, tuplets, clefs, key signatures, time signatures, lyrics, dynamics, articulations, parts, and many layout instructions.
MusicXML is useful when moving a score between notation programs or creating an editable archive. It is not an audio format and does not itself contain a recording. Programs may store the same content as an uncompressed .musicxml file or a compressed .mxl package.
How to convert PNG to MUSICXML

.musicxmlif a specific application requires that extension. - Open the result in a notation editor, play it back, compare it with the PNG, and correct the notation before printing or further editing.
Quality and compatibility limitations
This conversion is recognition, not a direct format rewrite. OMR can misread low-resolution images, skewed pages, overlapping symbols, unusual fonts, handwritten notation, dense polyphony, orchestral scores, small dynamics, lyrics, and ornaments. A visually correct PNG does not guarantee a musically correct result.
Verify pitch, rhythm, measure duration, key and time signatures, voice assignments, ties, slurs, articulations, repeats, transposing instruments, and part names. Playback in MuseScore or another notation program exposes many duration and pitch errors that are difficult to see in the exported page.
MusicXML support differs between applications: layout details, fonts, page breaks, playback instructions, instrument definitions, and proprietary notation features may change during import. Preserve the original PNG alongside the edited .musicxml file as the visual reference.
