Convert WK! to XLSX

Understanding WK! and XLSX file formats

WK! files are spreadsheet documents created by Lotus 1-2-3, a popular spreadsheet application from the 1980s and 1990s. These files store data in a tabular format, including formulas, charts, and formatting. However, Lotus 1-2-3 is now obsolete, and WK! files are rarely used today.

XLSX is the modern spreadsheet file format used by Microsoft Excel (introduced in Excel 2007). It is based on the Office Open XML standard and supports advanced features, compatibility, and better data integrity.

Why convert WK! to XLSX?

Converting WK! files to XLSX allows you to access, edit, and share your old Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheets using modern software like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice Calc. This ensures your data remains accessible and usable.

How to convert WK! to XLSX

Since WK! is an outdated format, direct conversion options are limited. The best approach is to use LibreOffice Calc, which still supports opening many Lotus 1-2-3 files, including WK! files.

1. Download and install LibreOffice from the official website.
2. Open LibreOffice Calc.
3. Go to File → Open and select your WK! file.
4. Once the file is open, go to File → Save As.
5. In the Save as type dropdown, select Microsoft Excel 2007–365 (.xlsx).
6. Click Save to convert and export your spreadsheet as an XLSX file.

Alternative conversion methods

If LibreOffice Calc cannot open your WK! file, you may try:

• Using Gnumeric, another spreadsheet program with legacy format support.
• Online converters such as Zamzar or Convertio, though support for WK! is rare and may not always work.
