Convert CDR to PPT

A CorelDRAW file may need to be placed in a PowerPoint presentation when a meeting system, client template, classroom platform, or older recipient requires slides instead of a print-design document. PowerPoint cannot open CDR files directly, so the artwork must be exported or converted first.

CDR and PPT formats

CDR is CorelDRAW’s native document format. Designers use it for vector illustrations, logos, signage, packaging, diagrams, multipage layouts, and print artwork; it can contain vectors, text, bitmaps, layers, color profiles, effects, and links to external images.

PPT is the binary Microsoft PowerPoint 97–2003 presentation format. It stores slides, text, images, shapes, notes, and presentation settings, but it has older compatibility limits. Use PPTX, PowerPoint’s current XML-based format, unless a recipient explicitly requires .ppt; PowerPoint can save a finished PPTX as PPT when needed.

A CDR page is a design canvas, not necessarily a slide. A conversion can place one CDR page on one PowerPoint slide, but it does not reliably turn CorelDRAW layers, print settings, or drawing effects into editable PowerPoint objects.

Convert with CorelDRAW

Use CorelDRAW to open and prepare the source file because it has the most accurate access to its fonts, linked images, effects, and page structure.

1. Open the CDR file in CorelDRAW and resolve missing-font warnings. Inspect artistic text, text on paths, and fitted text after font substitution.
2. Confirm that linked images are available. Embed or collect linked assets before moving the file to another computer.
3. Check page order and dimensions. For a 16:9 presentation, set the PowerPoint slide size to the intended proportion, commonly 13.333 × 7.5 inches, rather than stretching artwork after export.
4. Save an unchanged copy, such as presentation-source.cdr.
5. If the installed CorelDRAW release lists a Microsoft PowerPoint export format under File → Export, export the required pages to PPT or PPTX. Available export filters vary by CorelDRAW version and installation.
6. Open the exported presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint, inspect every slide in Normal and Slide Show views, then save as .ppt only if legacy PowerPoint compatibility is required.

Use PDF, SVG, or PNG when direct export is unavailable

If CorelDRAW does not provide a PowerPoint export filter, export each CDR page through a format PowerPoint handles reliably.

• PDF to PPTX: Export a multipage PDF from CorelDRAW with File → Publish to PDF. In Adobe Acrobat Pro, use Convert → Microsoft PowerPoint PPTX. This is convenient for page-to-slide conversion, but inspect the result because text, gradients, and vector groups may be converted or flattened.
• PNG for visual fidelity: Export each page as PNG at the final slide aspect ratio and sufficient pixel dimensions, such as 1920 × 1080 for Full HD slides. In PowerPoint, set the slide size first, then use Insert → Pictures to place one image on each slide. PNG preserves appearance more predictably than an object conversion, but the slide artwork is not editable.
• SVG for limited vector editing: Export simple vector pages or selected objects as SVG, then insert them into a PPTX presentation with Insert → Pictures. Recent desktop PowerPoint versions can sometimes use Graphics Format → Convert to Shape, but complex paths, text, clipping, and effects may change. Do not rely on SVG editing when the final delivery must be legacy PPT.

For an occasional online job, Zamzar and Convertio offer CDR-to-PPT or CDR-to-PPTX conversion options. Confirm the currently offered output format before uploading, test a representative file first, and do not upload confidential artwork unless the service’s retention, access, and data-processing terms meet the organization’s requirements.

Quality and compatibility limits

• PowerPoint presentation graphics are normally RGB. CMYK values, spot colors, overprint, bleed, crop marks, and print separations do not carry over as presentation behavior.
• Transparency, mesh fills, lenses, blends, shadows, clipping groups, and unsupported effects may be rasterized. Rasterization preserves appearance but increases file size and prevents object-level editing.
• Editable text depends on the same fonts being installed and on the converter’s ability to map CorelDRAW formatting. Text on paths, OpenType features, kerning, and paragraph fitting commonly change.
• Images should be exported at the required screen resolution rather than at excessive print resolution. A 16:9 slide shown at 1920 × 1080 does not benefit from a full-page 300 dpi bitmap unless it will be zoomed or printed.
• PPT has fewer capabilities than PPTX and may remove newer PowerPoint features during saving. Keep the reviewed PPTX as the working master and create the PPT copy only for delivery.
