What the WMF format is

WMF, or Windows Metafile, is a vector graphics format used to store lines, shapes, fills, and text. Embroidery designers may receive WMF artwork from CorelDRAW, Microsoft Office, or other Windows graphics programs before digitizing a logo or illustration. A WMF does not contain thread colors, stitch order, stitch types, underlay, density, pull compensation, or machine commands.

What the XXX format is

XXX is a machine-embroidery design format associated with Singer embroidery machines and software. It stores stitch coordinates, thread color information, and other data needed to sew a design. XXX is useful when the target machine, embroidery editor, or production workflow specifically supports Singer-format designs.

How to actually convert WMF to XXX

Scaling WMF artwork does not automatically preserve embroidery quality: a graphic must be redesigned for the fabric, thread, needle, and hoop size. Gradients, transparency, very thin lines, and small text require manual interpretation because XXX stores stitches, not the original vector appearance.

XXX support varies by machine generation and software. Confirm the required hoop size, maximum design dimensions, thread-change behavior, color sequence, and whether the machine expects a particular XXX variant. Always test-stitch a sample on the intended fabric before production.
