Free online VSDM to EPS converter

EPS is commonly required by older prepress, illustration, and desktop-publishing software that cannot import Visio drawings directly. Converting a VSDM file also removes its Visio-specific macros and interactive behavior, leaving a printable vector illustration.

What the VSDM format is

VSDM is the macro-enabled drawing format used by Microsoft Visio 2013 and later. It stores diagrams such as flowcharts, network maps, organizational charts, process diagrams, and other technical drawings in an XML-based Visio package, while allowing embedded VBA macros.

VSDM files are created and edited primarily in the desktop version of Microsoft Visio. You may encounter them when a diagram was saved with macros enabled, when a business workflow includes automated Visio actions, or when a collaborator sends a Visio drawing that cannot be opened by basic image or document software.

What the EPS format is

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is a page-description format used for vector artwork, commercial printing, and legacy illustration or publishing applications. It can preserve lines, curves, fills, and text at resolution-independent quality, making it suitable for logos, diagrams, and print layouts.

EPS is less suitable for interactive diagrams: it does not preserve Visio layers, hyperlinks, comments, data graphics, macros, or editable Visio shapes. Fonts may be embedded, converted to outlines, or substituted depending on the export tool.

How to convert VSDM to EPS

Using the built-in online converter

1. Open the VSDM-to-EPS conversion page on 101convert.com.
2. Choose the source file with the upload control and select .vsdm if the site asks for the input format.
3. Start the conversion and download the resulting .eps file when processing finishes.

This option does not require Microsoft Visio or other installed software. Use it for diagrams that do not contain confidential information or macros requiring inspection.

Using Microsoft Visio

1. Open the file in the desktop edition of Microsoft Visio; do not enable macros unless the file is trusted and the macros are required before export.
2. Choose File → Save As or File → Export.
3. Select Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps) if that format is available in your Visio version, choose an output location, and save.
4. Open the EPS in the target publishing or illustration application and inspect page size, text, line weights, and clipping.

When Visio does not offer EPS

Export an intermediate vector file from Visio using File → Export → SVG or PDF, then open that file in Inkscape and choose File → Save a Copy, select Encapsulated PostScript (*.eps), and save. SVG generally provides better editable vector geometry; PDF can preserve page appearance more reliably for complex layouts.

Quality and compatibility limitations

Check the EPS at its final print size because Visio-to-EPS conversion can alter arrowheads, connectors, shadows, transparency, gradients, and custom line caps. Text depends on fonts installed during conversion; convert text to outlines only when the receiving workflow does not need editable text.

VSDM macros, hyperlinks, data-linked graphics, comments, animation, and Visio-specific metadata do not survive in EPS. Keep the original VSDM as the editable master, and use the EPS only for print or vector-artwork delivery.
