What the HUS format is

HUS is a machine-embroidery design format associated with Husqvarna Viking sewing and embroidery machines. It stores stitch coordinates, thread-color information, design dimensions, and related machine instructions rather than a conventional picture.

HUS files are created or exported by Husqvarna Viking software and are also found in embroidery-design libraries shared for compatible machines. Embroidery programs such as Embird, Wilcom software, and Ink/Stitch may import HUS files, although support can vary by program version and by HUS variant.

What the BMP format is

BMP is a raster image format that stores pixels, commonly with 24-bit color and little or no compression. It is supported by Windows image viewers, print software, documentation tools, and general image editors.

A BMP representation of an embroidery design shows the rendered stitches, thread colors, and background. It does not retain stitch order, needle stops, thread changes, hoop data, machine commands, or editable embroidery objects. Use BMP when a visible design preview is more useful than machine-readable stitch data.

How to convert HUS to BMP

Using the online converter

1. Open the HUS-to-BMP converter on 101convert.com; it runs without installing desktop software.
2. Choose the source file with Upload or the file-selection control and select the .hus design.
3. Start the conversion and wait for the design to be rendered as a bitmap.
4. Download the resulting .bmp file and open it in an image viewer to check its colors, size, and background.

Using embroidery software

1. Open the HUS file in embroidery software that supports HUS import, such as Embird, Wilcom software, or Ink/Stitch.
2. Confirm the design scale, hoop placement, stitch colors, and background before rendering. If the program reports missing thread colors, assign equivalent colors from its thread chart.
3. Use the program's image-rendering or preview command, commonly found under File → Export, File → Save As, or a design-preview menu.
4. Select BMP as the output format, set the required pixel dimensions or resolution, and save the file.

If the software has no BMP option, export a supported raster format such as PNG and convert that image to BMP in an image editor. This preserves only the rendered appearance, not the embroidery instructions.

Quality and compatibility limits

The output resolution controls how clearly individual stitches appear. Set the pixel dimensions high enough for the intended print size; enlarging a small BMP afterward cannot recreate stitch detail.

Different programs may render the same HUS file differently because of thread charts, underlay display, simulation settings, stitch-width handling, and unsupported machine-specific commands. Check the preview against the original design before using the BMP for production documentation.

Keep the original HUS file for embroidery. A BMP cannot be converted back into the original stitch sequence reliably because the raster image contains color and shape information but not the underlying stitch paths.
