What the HUS format is

HUS is a binary machine-embroidery format associated with Husqvarna Viking embroidery machines and software such as 3D Embroidery, PREMIER+ and mySewnet. It stores stitch coordinates, thread-color blocks, needle movement commands and design metadata for machine stitching.

HUS is a stitch format rather than a conventional vector-illustration format. Its geometry describes the actual sewn paths, including jumps and trims, so it does not contain the kind of clean outlines and fills normally created in an EPS drawing.

What the EPS format is

EPS, or Encapsulated PostScript, stores scalable vector paths, fills, strokes and sometimes embedded bitmap previews. Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW and other page-layout or graphics programs use it for logos, print production, cutting artwork and design exchange.

EPS is useful when the design must be enlarged without pixelation or edited as artwork. It is not normally a machine-embroidery format; an embroidery machine cannot usually sew an EPS file without digitizing it into HUS, DST, PES or another stitch format.

How to convert HUS to EPS

Using the built-in online converter

1. Open the HUS-to-EPS conversion page on 101convert.com.
2. Choose the HUS file from your computer. If the file came from a machine card or USB drive, copy it to the computer first.
3. Select EPS as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting EPS file and open it in a vector application such as Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW.

Check the preview before using the result for production. The conversion may represent each stitch run as a path, or produce a simplified visual outline, depending on the converter and the contents of the HUS file.

Using desktop embroidery and vector software

For a local workflow, open the HUS file in software that supports HUS import, such as Ink/Stitch through Inkscape or compatible commercial embroidery software. Inspect the stitch layout, thread colors and design size, then export or save the displayed stitch geometry as SVG. In Inkscape, use File → Save a Copy or File → Export and choose EPS if that output is available in the installed version.

If the embroidery program offers direct EPS export, use its File → Export or File → Save As command, select EPS, set the design bounds rather than the page bounds, and preserve the original color blocks when the option is available.

Quality and compatibility limitations

HUS-to-EPS conversion is a change from stitch instructions to vector artwork. Stitch order, underlay, density, compensation, trims and machine-specific commands may be discarded or converted into ordinary visible paths. Thread colors can also change if the HUS file lacks a complete thread chart or uses proprietary color metadata.

The EPS may look correct at its original size but contain thousands of small stitch paths, making it slow to edit. For a clean logo or print illustration, manually redraw or simplify the result in the vector editor. If the EPS must later return to an embroidery machine, re-digitize it and export to the required machine format instead of treating the EPS as a lossless embroidery backup.
