What the PHC format is

PHC is not a single universally defined format. Different specialist programs use the .phc extension for proprietary project, design, or data files. The creating application determines whether the file contains vector paths, raster imagery, embroidery or machine instructions, document data, or another type of content.

Check the file's source program, file properties, or the application that originally created it before converting. Renaming file.phc to file.eps does not convert the internal data and can make the file harder to identify.

What the EPS format is

EPS, or Encapsulated PostScript, is a page-description format used for illustrations, logos, diagrams, and print production. It can store vector paths, embedded or referenced fonts, clipping paths, and raster images, with a bounding box that defines the artwork's placement.

EPS is useful when a print or publishing application requires PostScript or when artwork must remain scalable. It is less suitable for interactive documents, animation, transparency-heavy designs, or arbitrary application data. EPS does not preserve PHC-specific project features unless the converter explicitly maps them to printable artwork.

How to actually convert PHC to EPS

First make a copy of the original file and confirm which program created it. Then use the conversion page on 101convert.com:

1. Open the PHC-to-EPS converter on 101convert.com.
2. Upload the .phc file or select it from your device.
3. Choose EPS as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the generated EPS file and open it in a compatible vector or publishing application.

The online conversion is free and does not require installing software, but it will work only if the service recognizes the particular PHC variant. If it reports that the file is unsupported, convert it first in the application that created it.

For a desktop workflow, open the PHC in its native application and use File → Export or File → Save as to create SVG or PDF. SVG can then be opened in Inkscape and exported as EPS, for example:

If the native application produces PDF instead, Poppler's pdftops can create EPS:

pdftops -eps artwork.pdf artwork.eps

Quality and compatibility limitations

A PHC file containing vector artwork can usually produce a useful EPS, but the result depends on the source application's export support. Raster content remains raster inside the EPS; increasing the EPS page size does not increase its resolution.

Inspect fonts, line widths, clipping, colors, and the artwork bounding box after conversion. Convert fonts to outlines when the receiving print system does not have the original fonts, but keep an editable copy with live text because outlined text cannot be edited as text.

Transparency, gradients, effects, linked images, and layers may be flattened or changed by EPS export. If the PHC file contains machine instructions, project metadata, or other non-visual data, EPS preserves only a rendered representation, not the original editable information.
