A program, database, or device may store records in a DB file while the recipient needs an editable spreadsheet. Converting the records to Excel makes them easier to filter, share, archive, or analyze.

What DB and Excel files contain

DB is a generic extension, not one database format. A file named data.db may be a SQLite database, a dBASE table, an application-specific database, or a proprietary file used by a device. The extension alone does not identify its structure; renaming the file does not convert it.

DB files can contain tables, columns, indexes, relationships, queries, metadata, and application-specific values. SQLite files are commonly used by desktop and mobile software because the database is stored in a single portable file. dBASE files normally use the .dbf extension, while Microsoft Access databases generally use .mdb or .accdb.

Excel files are spreadsheets. .xlsx is the current XML-based workbook format, while .xls is the older binary format. Excel supports multiple worksheets, formulas, filters, charts, pivot tables, and widely compatible tabular editing. It is designed for analysis and presentation rather than database relationships or transaction processing.

How to convert a DB file online

1. Back up the original file and close the program that created it.
2. Open the DB-to-Excel converter on 101convert.com.
3. Select the DB file, choose XLSX or XLS as the output format, and start the conversion.
4. Download the generated workbook and open it in Microsoft Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or another compatible spreadsheet application.

This method requires no installed software, but it depends on the converter supporting the particular DB variant. Do not upload confidential, regulated, or proprietary records unless the service's data-handling policy permits it. For unsupported files, use the database software that created them or export their tables locally.

How to convert common DB variants locally

Microsoft Access databases

For .mdb and .accdb files, open the database in Microsoft Access, select the required table or query, then use External Data → Export → Excel. Choose the workbook path and complete the export wizard. Repeat the export for each table that must become a separate worksheet.

Access can also import dBASE tables before exporting them, but it cannot interpret every file that merely has a .db extension.

SQLite databases

Open the file in DB Browser for SQLite or another SQLite desktop tool, inspect the tables, and export each required table as CSV. Open each CSV in Excel or LibreOffice Calc, check the detected columns and data types, then save the workbook as .xlsx using File → Save As. A SQLite database may contain many related tables, so a single spreadsheet sheet cannot preserve its full schema.

For repeatable conversions, SQLite's command-line shell can export a query rather than an entire table. The query should be selected deliberately so that joins, column order, and filtering are explicit before the data is saved as CSV and opened in Excel.

DBASE and DBF tables

Open .dbf files in a DBF-capable application such as LibreOffice Calc, or import them into Microsoft Access. Export or save the data as .xlsx. Check the code page and character encoding when names or accented text display incorrectly.

Compatibility and data-quality limits

• Database structure is not preserved: Excel export normally copies rows and columns, not indexes, relationships, constraints, stored queries, permissions, or transaction history.
• Multiple tables need separate handling: Each table may become its own worksheet, or related tables may be flattened into one export through a deliberate query.
• Types can change: Dates, Boolean values, nulls, decimal precision, long integers, binary fields, and formulas may be converted to text or interpreted by Excel. Verify representative records after export.
• Leading zeroes require care: Postal codes, product codes, and identifiers may be turned into numbers. Format those columns as text before saving or importing them.
• Encoding affects text: Incorrect DBF code pages or CSV import settings can corrupt non-ASCII characters.
• Excel has size limits: An .xlsx worksheet supports up to 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns. Larger tables must be split, filtered, or retained in a database.
• Validate the result: Compare row counts, column names, totals, date ranges, null values, and several records with the source before deleting or replacing the DB file.
