How to convert db to html file

A database file may need conversion when its records must be viewed in a browser, published as a web page, or shared with people who do not have the original database software. HTML provides a portable, readable representation, but the correct method depends on the database engine stored inside the generic .db file.

What the DB format is

.db is a filename extension used by multiple database systems, not one standardized format. SQLite applications, mobile apps, browsers, games, cataloging tools, and custom programs commonly create SQLite databases; other software uses .db for proprietary tables, dBase-compatible data, or application settings.

A SQLite database normally begins with the signature SQLite format 3. On systems with the SQLite command-line utility, inspect a suspected file with file database.db or open a copy in a SQLite database browser. Files created by Microsoft Access, dBase, email clients, or specialist applications require software that supports their specific format; SQLite commands will not read them correctly.

What the HTML format is

HTML is a markup format for browser-readable pages. A database export normally represents a selected table or query as an HTML table with column headings and cell values. The result can be opened locally, attached to an email, published on a website, or edited with a text or web editor.

HTML preserves displayed values and basic tabular layout, but it does not preserve database features such as indexes, relationships, forms, validation rules, triggers, permissions, or editable queries. A static export is suitable for viewing and publishing, not for replacing the original database.

How to convert a DB file online

  1. Make a backup of the original .db file. Do not upload confidential, personal, or regulated data unless the file is permitted to leave its storage environment.
  2. Open the DB conversion tool on 101convert.com, upload the file, choose HTML as the output format, and start the conversion. The service can be used free without installing desktop software, subject to support for the database type and file size.
  3. Download the result and open it in a browser. Check representative rows, dates, decimal values, non-ASCII characters, empty cells, and fields containing line breaks.

A generic extension does not guarantee compatibility. If the converter cannot identify the file, reports missing tables, or produces incomplete output, identify the database engine and use its native export tools instead.

How to export a SQLite database

For a confirmed SQLite file, install the SQLite command-line utility and list its tables:

sqlite3 database.db ".tables"

Export a selected table as an HTML table with column headings:

sqlite3 database.db
.mode html
.headers on
.output products.html
SELECT * FROM products;
.output stdout
.quit

Replace products with the required table. A query is usually preferable to a raw table export because it can filter rows, select useful columns, join related tables, and sort the result:

SELECT p.id, p.name, c.category_name
FROM products AS p
LEFT JOIN categories AS c ON c.id = p.category_id
ORDER BY p.name;

SQLite's HTML mode escapes values for table cells, but it normally produces an HTML table fragment rather than a complete designed page. Add a document title, styling, navigation, and pagination manually when required. For a graphical workflow, open the file in a SQLite database manager, choose a table or query, and use its HTML export function.

How to export other DB types

Open the file in the application that created it, or in a compatible database program with the required driver. Select a table or saved query and use a command such as File → Export → HTML or File → Save As → HTML. LibreOffice Base can work with supported database connections, but proprietary formats may require the original application or a vendor-supplied driver.

Quality and compatibility limits

  • Identify the database type first: an Access, dBase, or proprietary file cannot be safely processed as SQLite.
  • Export a query when filtering, column order, joins, or calculated values matter. A raw table may expose internal IDs, audit fields, or unrelated columns.
  • Check date, time, timezone, decimal, and currency formatting. HTML contains exported character values rather than database-native data types.
  • Binary fields such as images, documents, attachments, and encrypted values may be omitted, converted to filenames, or displayed as unreadable data. Export those fields separately when necessary.
  • Large tables can create slow, unwieldy files. Filter the data, split the output, or generate a server-side view instead of placing millions of rows in one document.
  • Keep the original database. HTML output generally cannot reconstruct relationships, indexes, constraints, permissions, transactions, or application behavior.
