Free online ACCDB to ODS converter

People convert Access databases when table data must be edited in LibreOffice Calc, shared as a spreadsheet, or stored in an open format. The conversion normally transfers selected tables or query results, not the complete Access database application.

What the ACCDB format is

.accdb is the Microsoft Access database format introduced with Access 2007. It can contain tables, relationships, queries, forms, reports, indexes, attachments, and, in some databases, VBA modules and macros. Microsoft Access creates and opens ACCDB files; they are used by businesses, organizations, and individuals for relational data storage and small database applications.

What the ODS format is

.ods is the OpenDocument Spreadsheet format used by LibreOffice Calc, Apache OpenOffice Calc, and other compatible spreadsheet programs. It stores worksheets, cell values, formulas, formatting, charts, filters, and other spreadsheet features in an open, XML-based package. ODS is useful when recipients need to edit the data without Access, or when an application-neutral format is preferred for sharing and archiving.

How to convert ACCDB to ODS

Using Microsoft Access and LibreOffice Calc

1. Open the .accdb file in Microsoft Access.
2. In the Navigation Pane, select the table or saved query to export. Export each required table or query separately when the database contains multiple datasets.
3. Choose External Data → Excel.
4. Choose an output filename ending in .xlsx, select the available formatting option if required, and click Export. Access exports the selected table or query; it does not convert the database's relationships, forms, reports, or macros into one spreadsheet.
5. Open the resulting .xlsx file in LibreOffice Calc.
6. Choose File → Save As, select ODF Spreadsheet (.ods), and save. If Calc asks whether to keep the current format, confirm the ODS format.

For a simple table, use External Data → Text File in Access instead. Export to .csv, open the file in Calc, verify the delimiter, character encoding, text qualifiers, and detected column types, then choose File → Save As and select ODS. If several tables are needed, export them separately and place them on separate ODS sheets; this does not preserve their database relationships.

Quality and compatibility limitations

• Database features are not preserved: ODS contains spreadsheet data, not Access tables with enforced relationships, primary and foreign keys, indexes, validation rules, forms, reports, permissions, or working VBA code.
• Queries may lose their definitions: exporting a query generally transfers its current result set. Run the query in Access first if calculated fields or joins must appear in the output, and retain the SQL separately if it is needed later.
• Data types can change: check long text, attachments, multivalue fields, Yes/No values, currency precision, dates, null values, and calculated fields after export. Attachments and other non-tabular data may not have a useful spreadsheet representation.
• CSV requires extra checking: leading zeros, account numbers, postal codes, decimal separators, dates, and embedded delimiters can be interpreted incorrectly. Set text columns explicitly during Calc's import dialog when their formatting must be retained.
• Spreadsheet size is limited: current LibreOffice Calc versions support up to 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet, while available memory and formula complexity impose lower practical limits.
• Inspect formulas and formatting: formulas, charts, filters, and formatting may differ between Access, Excel, and Calc. Preserve the original ACCDB file when the database structure or application behavior must remain available.
