What the ACCDB format is

.accdb is the Microsoft Access database format introduced with Access 2007. It can contain tables, queries, forms, reports, macros, relationships, indexes, and embedded attachments. Microsoft Access creates and manages ACCDB files; some versions of LibreOffice Base and third-party database drivers can read the tables, but they do not reproduce every Access feature.

ACCDB files commonly appear when a business application, Microsoft 365 workflow, school database, or older desktop system stores structured records in Access. The file is not a word-processing document, so it has no single page layout that can be transferred directly to ODT.

What the ODT format is

.odt is the OpenDocument Text format used by LibreOffice Writer, Apache OpenOffice Writer, and other compatible applications. It stores paragraphs, styles, tables, images, page settings, headers, footers, and related document elements in an open, ZIP-based format.

ODT is appropriate for a readable report, a set of exported database records, or documentation derived from an Access database. It is not a replacement for database tables, queries, relationships, forms, or macros.

How to actually convert ACCDB to ODT

Convert an Access report

1. Open the ACCDB file in Microsoft Access and open the required report in Print Preview.
2. Choose External Data → Export → Word or External Data → Export → More → Rich Text Format, depending on the Access version.
3. Save the output as an .rtf file. RTF preserves report text and much of its formatting, but it may not preserve every Access control or page element.
4. Open the RTF file in LibreOffice Writer.
5. Choose File → Save As, select ODF Text Document (.odt), and save. Recheck page breaks, tables, fonts, images, and headers before distributing the ODT file.

Convert database records or tables

1. In Access, select the table or query containing the required records.
2. Use External Data → Export → Text File to create a delimited .csv file, or export to .xlsx if the data contains complex values that need spreadsheet handling.
3. Open the CSV in LibreOffice Calc and confirm the delimiter, character encoding, date format, decimal separator, and column types in the import dialog.
4. Select the required cells, copy them, open LibreOffice Writer, and paste them as a table using Edit → Paste Special if formatting control is needed.
5. Save the Writer document as .odt through File → Save As.

It normally does not transfer Access VBA, macros, relationships, validation rules, calculated query logic, form controls, or searchable database behavior. Export only the tables, queries, or reports needed for the document.

For confidential records, use a local Access-to-RTF/CSV-to-ODT workflow instead of uploading the database. Before conversion, make a backup and remove unnecessary tables, attachments, and personal data. After conversion, verify non-ASCII characters, null values, long fields, date and currency formatting, column widths, and report pagination.
