A program, script, or device may accept only delimited text and cannot read a Microsoft Access database. Exporting the required table or query to .txt creates a portable file that can be edited or imported without Access.

What the ACCDB format is

.accdb is the database format introduced with Microsoft Access 2007 and used by later Access versions. An ACCDB file can contain tables, queries, relationships, indexes, forms, reports, macros, attachments, and VBA code, and is mainly used by organizations and individuals building desktop databases with Microsoft Access.

Because one ACCDB file can contain multiple related tables, conversion normally exports one selected table or query. A TXT file cannot reproduce the database structure, relationships, forms, reports, or application logic.

What the TXT format is

.txt is a plain-text file containing characters rather than database objects. Exported records are commonly separated by newline characters, with fields separated by tabs, commas, semicolons, or another delimiter. A fixed-width text file can instead reserve a defined character width for each field.

Plain text works with command-line tools, scripts, legacy software, import systems, and basic text editors. It is widely supported and easy to inspect, but it does not retain database constraints, indexes, relationships, field types, or executable content.

Using Microsoft Access

1. Open the ACCDB file in Microsoft Access.
2. In the Navigation Pane, select the table or saved query to export. Use a query when you need selected columns, filtered rows, joins, or calculated results.
3. Choose External Data → Text File.
4. Enter a destination filename ending in .txt, select OK, and open the Text Export Wizard.
5. Choose Delimited when the receiving program expects separators, or Fixed Width when it specifies field positions.
6. For a delimited file, select the required separator. Tab is often safer than comma when values contain commas; use the delimiter required by the destination system.
7. Enable the option to include field names in the first row if the receiving program expects column headers.
8. Set the appropriate text encoding or code page in the wizard's advanced options when available. Use UTF-8 when the destination supports it and the data contains accented characters, non-Latin scripts, or other Unicode text.
9. Complete the export and inspect the resulting file in a plain-text editor. Check the delimiter, header row, quotation marks, line breaks, character encoding, and representative values.

Repeat the export for each required table or query; Access exports the selected object rather than every table automatically. For repeatable exports, save an export specification when Access offers that option, or export a query whose definition controls the columns and rows.

Multivalued fields, attachments, and other complex Access field types may require a separate export or a custom query and may not have a useful single-column TXT representation. LibreOffice Base and database drivers can provide partial ACCDB access, but compatibility varies; Microsoft Access is the most reliable option for exporting Access-specific features.
