Free online PKPASS to JPG converter

A JPG is useful when a ticketing system, editor, messaging app, or archive cannot accept a PKPASS file and only needs a static visual copy. The conversion does not preserve Wallet updates, interactive features, or guaranteed barcode functionality.

What the PKPASS format is

PKPASS is Apple Wallet’s package format for boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, loyalty cards, and store cards. Airlines, venues, retailers, and other issuers distribute these files for use mainly on iPhone and Apple Watch.

A .pkpass file is a ZIP-based package rather than a single image. It commonly contains pass.json for the pass fields and layout, PNG artwork, a manifest listing package files, and a cryptographic signature. The package can also contain localized text and several artwork variants.

Apple Wallet validates the package and can display issuer updates, expiration information, location alerts, and other pass data. Android does not include Apple Wallet; some third-party pass applications may support PKPASS files, but compatibility varies.

What the JPG format is

JPG, also called JPEG, is a raster image format supported by web browsers, operating systems, image editors, document systems, and messaging applications. Its lossy compression usually creates smaller files than PNG, which is useful for sharing, previews, and storage.

A JPG contains only pixels. It cannot retain the pass signature, live updates, expiration logic, NFC functions, location alerts, or the ability to open the pass in Apple Wallet. The output is either an embedded artwork image or a visual capture of the displayed pass, not a functional replacement.

How to convert a PKPASS file

Use 101convert.com when you need a quick static image without installing software. Save the original .pkpass separately if you may still need the working Wallet pass.

1. Open the PKPASS-to-JPG converter on 101convert.com.
2. Select or upload the .pkpass file. If a format selector is shown, choose JPG.
3. Start the conversion and download the generated .jpg file.
4. Open the result and check the pass name, dates, small text, and barcode before sharing or printing it.

Do not upload a pass containing booking references, names, access codes, or other sensitive information unless the service’s handling of uploaded files is acceptable for your use.

How to create a complete visual copy

An automatic conversion may use one embedded asset, such as a logo or strip image. Those assets do not normally contain all text fields and barcode data shown by Wallet. To capture the complete displayed pass:

1. Open the valid pass in Apple Wallet on an iPhone.
2. Display the face containing the required fields and barcode, then take a screenshot. Capture additional screens if the pass has multiple faces.
3. Crop the screenshot without removing the entire barcode or its surrounding margin.
4. Open the capture in an image editor and choose File → Export or File → Save As, then select JPG and a high-quality setting.

A screenshot normally starts as PNG on Apple devices, so exporting it as JPG is a separate step. The result reflects the pass as displayed at that moment; it is not an official reissued pass.

How to extract embedded artwork

On a desktop, make a copy of the file and open it with an archive utility. You can also run:

unzip pass.pkpass -d pass_files

Renaming pass.pkpass to pass.zip before opening it also works with archive tools that do not recognize the PKPASS extension. Look for files such as icon.png, logo.png, strip.png, background.png, and thumbnail.png. Names and available assets vary by pass.

Open the selected PNG in an image editor and use File → Export to choose JPG. ImageMagick can perform the same conversion with:

Manual extraction generally converts only one artwork component. It does not reconstruct the pass layout, text fields, or barcode; use a Wallet screenshot for a complete visual representation.

Quality and compatibility limits

JPG compression can blur small text, thin lines, and barcode edges. For a barcode that must be scanned, keep the original PKPASS as the primary file. If an image is required, export at the original display size or larger, use high JPG quality, and verify the printed or shared result with the intended scanner.

PNG is usually better than JPG for logos, screenshots with text, and other sharp graphics because it is lossless. A malformed or incomplete package, an invalid signature, or missing artwork can prevent automatic conversion or produce only a partial image. Extracting files or exporting a screenshot also removes the package’s digital signing and Wallet functionality.
