PKPASS is the file format used by Apple Wallet for digital passes such as boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, loyalty cards, and store cards. A .pkpass file is usually a signed package that contains pass data, images, and metadata. It is primarily distributed by airlines, venues, retailers, and other organizations for use on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Important: a PKPASS file is not an image file. It cannot be converted to JPG in the same direct way as PNG or BMP. In most cases, you either extract an image from the package or create a screenshot of the pass display.

JPG or JPEG is a widely supported raster image format used for photos, previews, and web graphics. Its main advantages are small file size and broad compatibility across operating systems, browsers, and image viewers. JPG is useful when you need a simple visual preview or a shareable image file.

When converting PKPASS to JPG, the result is usually a preview image of the pass or one of the embedded artwork files, not the Wallet pass itself.

How to convert pkpass to jpg

The best method depends on what you want from the pass. If you only need a picture of the pass, the easiest approach is to capture its appearance. If you want the artwork stored inside the package, extract the embedded image files first.

1. Use the built-in converter on 101convert.com if you want a quick conversion without installing software. Upload the .pkpass file and convert it to .jpg in the browser.
2. Open the pass in Apple Wallet on an iPhone if the file is valid and signed. Then take a screenshot of the pass and save or convert that screenshot to JPG. This is the simplest way to capture the full on-screen appearance.
3. Extract the package contents on a computer. A PKPASS file is essentially a signed ZIP archive. You can rename ticket.pkpass to ticket.zip and open it with a ZIP utility, or use unzip ticket.pkpass -d pass_contents.
4. Find the image files inside the extracted folder. Common filenames include icon.png, logo.png, strip.png, and thumbnail.png. Some passes may contain additional PNG assets.
5. Convert the extracted PNG to JPG with an image editor or command-line tool. For example, with ImageMagick you can run magick strip.png strip.jpg. In GIMP or Photoshop, open the PNG and choose File → Export As, then select JPG as the output format.
6. If you need a full pass preview, combine the relevant images and text in an editor, then export the final composition as JPG.

Notes on quality and limitations

PKPASS is not a single image, so there is no one-to-one conversion to JPG. The output depends on which embedded asset or visual view you choose.

Because JPG uses lossy compression, text, barcodes, and sharp edges may look worse than in the original PNG assets. If the pass contains QR codes or fine typography, keeping the image as PNG is often better.

PKPASS files are digitally signed, and extracting images does not preserve Apple Wallet functionality. A JPG cannot be imported back into Apple Wallet as a pass.

If the file is incomplete, malformed, or missing image assets, conversion may fail or produce only a partial preview. For the most accurate visual output, use the original pass design files when available.
