Convert LQM to JPG

LG QuickMemo files may not open in standard photo or document software, so converting them to JPG makes a memo viewable in ordinary galleries, messaging apps, websites, and editors. The conversion is also useful when sharing a memo with someone who does not have an LG phone.

What the LQM format is

LQM is the native file format associated with LG QuickMemo and QuickMemo+ on many LG Android phones. A memo may contain typed text, handwriting, drawings, annotations, background data, and embedded images. The format is intended for the LG application, not for general-purpose image viewers.

Many LQM files are ZIP-based containers holding metadata and separate image or drawing resources, but the internal structure varies by application version. Renaming memo.lqm to memo.zip can reveal those resources; it does not reliably produce a complete, flattened picture of the memo.

What the JPG format is

JPG (JPEG) is a widely supported raster-image format used by browsers, phones, messaging services, document systems, and image editors. Its lossy compression usually creates smaller files than PNG, which helps with sharing and storage.

JPG is suitable for a memo containing photos or ordinary graphics. Compression can blur small text, thin handwriting, and sharp lines, so retain the original LQM and use PNG when lossless quality is required.

How to convert an LQM file to JPG

Export from QuickMemo on an LG phone

1. Copy the LQM file to an LG phone that has the QuickMemo or QuickMemo+ application capable of opening that file.
2. Open the memo in the application. If the file is a backup or attachment, use the application’s import or restore function first.
3. Open the memo’s menu and look for Share, Export, Save as image, or a similarly named command.
4. Choose JPG if the application offers a format choice, then save the file or send it to another application.

Menu names and export formats differ between LG models, Android versions, and QuickMemo releases. Some versions share an image directly, while others export PDF or use the Android share sheet without offering a JPG-specific setting.

Use a screenshot when image export is unavailable

1. Open the memo in QuickMemo and display the complete page at an appropriate zoom level.
2. Take an Android screenshot, using the phone’s screenshot or scrolling-screenshot function if the memo extends beyond one screen.
3. Crop the result and save or share it as JPG. If the phone saves screenshots as PNG, convert that PNG with an image editor.

A screenshot is a fallback, not a full-data conversion: it captures only what is visible, can reduce resolution, and may omit content outside the screen or on other pages.

Extract an embedded image on a computer

1. Make a copy of the original .lqm file.
2. Rename the copy to .zip, or open it directly with an archive utility if supported.
3. Open the archive with 7-Zip or another ZIP extractor and copy its contents to a new folder.
4. Inspect the extracted files for .jpg, .jpeg, or .png images.
5. Open a suitable image in IrfanView, XnView MP, or another image editor and choose File → Save as, then select JPG.

An extracted image may be an attachment, background, or individual layer rather than a rendering of the entire memo. If the archive contains XML, JSON, metadata, or drawing data but no complete image, 7-Zip cannot reconstruct the page; use QuickMemo or the screenshot method instead.

For an extracted PNG, ImageMagick can flatten transparency onto white and create a JPG:

Use the actual extracted filenames. A quality setting around 90–95 is generally appropriate for text-heavy notes, but it cannot restore detail already lost in the source image.

Online conversion and compatibility limits

There is no consistently supported general-purpose online service that directly renders every LQM variant. Services such as CloudConvert or Convertio can convert a supported extracted PNG or JPG to another image format, but they should not be expected to interpret the QuickMemo container or rebuild its drawing layers.

Do not upload private notes, passwords, medical information, or personal photographs to an online converter. A local extraction and export with QuickMemo, 7-Zip, and an image editor avoids that disclosure.

JPG stores one flattened image per file. A multi-page memo therefore requires a separate JPG for each page, or a different output such as PDF. Keep the original LQM, and preferably a lossless PNG export, for future editing and archival use.
