Free online PEC to PDF converter

PEC designs are often converted to PDF when an embroidery pattern must be shared, printed, archived, or reviewed without embroidery software. The PDF shows the design and supporting details, but it is not a replacement for the PEC file used by an embroidery machine.

What the PEC format is

PEC is a machine-embroidery format associated primarily with Brother and Baby Lock embroidery machines. It stores stitch commands, thread-color information, and design data that compatible embroidery software or machines can interpret.

Brother PE-Design, Palette, Embird, and other digitizing applications can create, open, or export PEC files. You may encounter a PEC file after downloading a Brother-compatible design, transferring a pattern from digitizing software, or preparing a design for a Brother or Baby Lock machine.

What the PDF format is

PDF is a page-layout format intended for consistent viewing, printing, and archiving. A PDF version of an embroidery design can include a rendered preview, design name, dimensions, stitch count, color sequence, thread chart, and hoop information if the conversion software provides those elements.

PDF is useful for sending a design to someone who does not have embroidery software, printing a placement reference, or keeping a human-readable design record. It does not contain machine-readable stitch instructions in a form that a Brother or Baby Lock machine can sew.

How to convert PEC to PDF

Using the online converter

1. Keep the original .pec file unchanged as a backup.
2. Open the PEC-to-PDF conversion page on 101convert.com; the conversion is available for free without installing software.
3. Upload the PEC file and choose PDF as the output format.
4. Start the conversion, then download the generated PDF.
5. Open the PDF and check that the design preview, colors, dimensions, and stitch information are readable before sharing or printing it.

Using embroidery software and a PDF printer

1. Open the PEC file in Brother PE-Design, Palette, Embird, or another application that supports PEC.
2. Set the intended hoop, display scale, thread palette, and page orientation in the design workspace.
3. Use the software's print or design-sheet function. If it has no direct PDF export, choose File → Print and select Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows or a system PDF printer on macOS.
4. Enable options such as design preview, color sequence, stitch count, dimensions, and thread chart when available.
5. Save the resulting PDF with a new filename, such as flower_design.pdf, so the original flower_design.pec remains available for machine use.

Quality and compatibility limitations

The PDF contains a visual rendering rather than the original stitch data. It cannot normally be edited as an embroidery design, converted back to an equivalent PEC file reliably, or loaded directly into an embroidery machine.

Check the printed or displayed dimensions against the PEC design settings: changing PDF page scaling to “fit to page” can alter the apparent size. Thread colors may also differ because PEC color information is interpreted through a software palette, while the actual thread brand and physical color depend on the materials used.

For production, retain the PEC file and verify the design in embroidery software before stitching. Use the PDF as documentation, a preview, or a printed placement reference.
