Free online SHV to PDF converter

SHV files are usually older Husqvarna Viking embroidery designs, while PDF is used for easy viewing, printing, sharing, and archiving. Conversion is needed when the design must be sent to someone without embroidery software or printed as a stitch-reference sheet.

What the SHV format is

SHV is primarily an embroidery-machine design format associated with older Husqvarna Viking systems and software such as the 4D and 5D Embroidery Systems. It stores machine-oriented data including stitch commands, thread colors, design dimensions, and sequencing rather than a normal image or document layout.

You may encounter SHV files in embroidery design archives, on older sewing-machine media, or after exporting a design from Husqvarna Viking software. Because the extension is not a universal document standard, confirm that the file is an embroidery design before converting it.

What the PDF format is

PDF preserves a fixed page layout across operating systems and is suitable for emailing, printing, cataloging, and displaying an embroidery design preview. A PDF made from an SHV file normally contains a rendered picture and optional design information; it does not remain usable as machine-stitch data.

How to convert SHV to PDF

Using the online converter

1. Open 101convert.com and choose the SHV-to-PDF conversion.
2. Upload the .shv file.
3. Start the conversion and download the resulting PDF when processing finishes.

This method requires no installed software. It works only when the uploaded SHV variant is supported by the converter.

Using embroidery software and PDF printing

1. Open the file in Husqvarna Viking 4D or 5D Embroidery System, or compatible embroidery software such as my editor.
2. Use File → Open and select the .shv file.
3. Check the design preview, thread colors, dimensions, and stitch count.
4. Choose File → Print or the application's print-preview command.
5. Select Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows, or choose PDF → Save as PDF in the macOS print dialog.
6. Set the paper size, orientation, scaling, and whether design information or a color chart should appear, then save the PDF.

Quality and compatibility limitations

PDF conversion renders the embroidery design for viewing or printing; it does not convert the design into an editable vector illustration or another embroidery format. The PDF cannot normally be loaded into a sewing machine as a replacement for the original SHV file.

For a printed template, disable automatic scaling or select 100% / actual size, then verify the printed dimensions with a ruler. Thread colors may differ between software palettes and physical thread, and some older SHV files may fail to open in current programs because of version-specific encoding or protection.
