PCS files are usually embroidery designs, while AI files are Adobe Illustrator artwork; conversion is needed when a stitch design must be opened or edited in Illustrator. The result is an artwork representation, not a format-preserving embroidery file.

What the PCS format is

PCS commonly refers to the Pfaff embroidery format used by Pfaff and compatible embroidery machines and design software. It stores stitch coordinates, thread changes, colors, and related machine instructions rather than ordinary vector shapes. You may encounter it in embroidery design libraries, digitizing applications, and files exported for older Pfaff machines.

If the AI file is intended for printing or logo editing, trace or redraw the design in Illustrator rather than relying on raw stitch paths.
