What the ODS format is

ODS is the OpenDocument Spreadsheet format defined by the OpenDocument standard. LibreOffice Calc and Apache OpenOffice Calc create ODS files; Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet applications can usually open them.

What the TNS format is

TNS is the document format used by Texas Instruments TI-Nspire software and calculators. A TNS document can contain TI-Nspire applications such as Calculator, Graphs, Geometry, Lists & Spreadsheet, Data & Statistics, and Notes.

TNS is designed for interactive mathematical work on TI-Nspire devices rather than general-purpose desktop spreadsheet editing. Its advantages are compatibility with TI-Nspire handhelds, support for calculator-specific mathematical objects, and storage of several related pages in one document. It is appropriate when the destination is TI-Nspire Student, Teacher, or Computer Link software, or a compatible TI-Nspire calculator.

How to actually convert ODS to TNS

Manual workflow for spreadsheet data

When a direct conversion does not preserve the workbook structure, convert the worksheet to CSV and import the data into a TI-Nspire document:

1. Open the ODS file in LibreOffice Calc.
2. Choose File → Save As, select Text CSV (.csv), and enable the option to save the current sheet if the workbook contains multiple sheets.
3. Open TI-Nspire Student, Teacher, or Computer Link software and create a new document.
4. Insert a Lists & Spreadsheet page, then use its data-import command to load the CSV file. The exact command name varies by TI-Nspire software version.
5. Check the imported columns, decimal separators, headers, and formulas.
6. Save the document with File → Save; TI-Nspire software creates a .tns file.

Quality and compatibility limits

A TNS file is not a general ODS replacement. ODS formulas, charts, macros, conditional formatting, multiple worksheets, pivot tables, and named ranges may not have equivalent TI-Nspire objects. A CSV intermediate preserves cell values and basic row-and-column structure, but it discards formulas, formatting, charts, and workbook metadata.

Before transferring the result, verify formulas and numeric values in TI-Nspire software. CSV files can also misinterpret decimal commas, field separators, dates, leading zeros, and character encoding; use UTF-8 where available and select the correct delimiter during import.
