What the SDOCX format is

SDOCX is the document format used by Samsung Notes for saved notes containing typed text, handwriting, drawings, images, and other note content. You commonly encounter it after exporting or backing up a note from Samsung Galaxy devices or working with Samsung Notes on Windows. SDOCX is not the same format as Microsoft Word DOCX, and changing the filename extension does not convert it.

Because SDOCX is primarily associated with Samsung Notes, general-purpose office software usually cannot interpret its layout and embedded note data correctly.

What the PNG format is

PNG is a lossless raster-image format suitable for screenshots, diagrams, handwriting, scanned pages, and other content where sharp edges and exact colors matter. It supports transparency and does not introduce JPEG-style compression artifacts.

PNG is an image format rather than a multipage document format. A note with several pages normally produces one PNG file per page, or a single long image if the conversion tool explicitly supports that option. Text in the resulting PNG is no longer selectable or directly editable.

How to convert SDOCX to PNG

Use the built-in converter

1. Open the SDOCX-to-PNG conversion page on 101convert.com.
2. Select the .sdocx file from your device.
3. Choose PNG as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the generated PNG file or files. For a multipage note, check whether the output is packaged as separate page images or an archive.

This route requires no installed software. Keep the original SDOCX file if the note may need later editing in Samsung Notes.

Export through Samsung Notes first

If direct conversion does not preserve the note correctly, open the file in Samsung Notes and export it as PDF. On supported versions, use More options → Save as file → PDF file; menu names can differ between Android and Windows versions.

Then rasterize the PDF with a PDF-to-image tool. For example, the Poppler command-line utility creates one PNG per PDF page:

pdftoppm -png -r 200 note.pdf note-page

This produces files such as note-page-1.png and note-page-2.png. The -r 200 setting renders at 200 DPI; use 300 DPI for finer printed text or handwriting, at the cost of larger files.

Quality and compatibility considerations

Conversion renders the visible page rather than preserving Samsung Notes editing features, layers, handwriting objects, audio attachments, or note metadata. Verify page orientation, clipped margins, fonts, and transparent backgrounds after conversion, especially when the SDOCX contains handwriting or imported images.

PNG files can be substantially larger than the original SDOCX, particularly at 300 DPI or higher. For ordinary screen sharing, 150–200 DPI is usually sufficient; use 300 DPI when the image will be printed or OCR-processed. If selectable text, searching, or compact multipage storage is required, keep a PDF export alongside the PNG files.
