Free online KAR to PDF converter

Karaoke MIDI files are often converted to PDF when a singer or musician needs a printable score instead of a playback file. PDF also makes the arranged notes and lyrics easier to share, print, and archive on devices without karaoke software.

What the KAR format is

KAR is a karaoke MIDI format. It stores MIDI note, timing, instrument, tempo, and control-event data, commonly together with lyric events for synchronized on-screen singing; it does not contain recorded audio. Karaoke players, MIDI sequencers, and karaoke authoring programs create or save KAR files, so they commonly appear in karaoke song libraries and older MIDI music collections.

A KAR file has no fixed pages, staff layout, fonts, or print settings. Software must interpret its MIDI events and create musical notation before a PDF score can be produced.

What the PDF format is

PDF preserves page layout, fonts, notation, and lyrics across operating systems and printers. It is suitable for printed vocal sheets, rehearsal copies, distribution, and long-term archiving, but it is not normally editable as MIDI and cannot reproduce the original karaoke playback behavior.

How to convert KAR to PDF

Using MuseScore for a printable score

1. Install and open MuseScore.
2. Choose File → Open and select song.kar. If MuseScore does not recognize the extension, make a copy, rename it to song.mid, and open the copy; KAR normally uses MIDI data with karaoke lyrics.
3. In the MIDI import settings, select the required tracks and adjust quantization, voices, and instrument assignment. Quantization controls how loosely timed MIDI events become written note values.
4. Check the resulting score. Correct clefs, rhythms, barlines, rests, staff assignments, tempo markings, and lyric placement because MIDI-to-notation conversion is interpretive.
5. Choose File → Export, select PDF, and save the result as song.pdf.

Using the built-in online converter

1. Open 101convert.com and select the KAR-to-PDF conversion tool.
2. Upload song.kar, choose PDF as the output format, and start the conversion.
3. Download the generated song.pdf and inspect every page for missing lyrics, incorrect rhythms, or unreadable notation.

Quality and compatibility limitations

The source file may contain only a melody, accompaniment tracks, or karaoke lyrics rather than a complete engraved arrangement. Sustain-pedal events, controller data, drum tracks, human timing variations, and overlapping notes can produce awkward notation or extra voices.

Lyric events may be imported as lyrics, omitted, or displayed with incorrect syllable spacing depending on the converter. A KAR file also cannot supply authentic instrument sound, articulation, or performance nuance to the PDF. For a clean score, edit the imported notation before exporting and use the original MIDI or KAR file separately for playback.
