What the Numbers format is
.numbers is the native spreadsheet format of Apple Numbers, part of iWork on macOS, iPadOS, and iOS. It is also produced by Numbers for iCloud. A Numbers file uses an Apple-specific package that can contain tables, formulas, charts, images, styles, and other workbook data.
Numbers does not normally export directly to ODS. Its standard spreadsheet export is Excel format, so .xlsx is usually the intermediate format for this conversion.
What the ODS format is
ODS, or OpenDocument Spreadsheet, is an open spreadsheet format defined by the OpenDocument standard. An .ods file is a ZIP-based package containing XML data, formulas, styles, and related workbook resources.
