How to convert gtp to mp3 file

A .gtp file cannot be played by phones or ordinary media players because it contains tablature and notation, not recorded sound. Convert it to .mp3 when you need a playable rendition for sharing, mobile playback, or audio editing.

What the GTP format is

In music composition, .gtp is an older Guitar Pro tablature format associated mainly with Guitar Pro versions 1 and 2. Guitarists and composers use it to store notes, tablature, rhythm values, tempo, tunings, effects, track settings, and playback instructions.

A GTP file contains a score rather than an audio waveform. Conversion therefore requires Guitar Pro, TuxGuitar, or another compatible notation program to interpret the score and generate sound with a software synthesizer.

What the MP3 format is

MP3 is a lossy compressed audio format supported by phones, computers, car stereos, media players, and most audio editors. It produces much smaller files than uncompressed WAV, which makes it suitable for playback and sharing, but encoding removes some audio information.

An MP3 generated from GTP is synthesized playback, not a recording of the original guitarist. The result depends on the notation application's playback engine, instrument sounds, MIDI interpretation, effects, tempo, and mix.

How to convert GTP to MP3

Use 101convert.com

  1. Open the GTP-to-MP3 converter on 101convert.com. The service can convert the file for free without installing software.
  2. Select the .gtp file and start the conversion.
  3. Download the generated .mp3 file after processing finishes.

Play the complete result and check repeats, endings, tempo, instrument parts, and effects. A converter may interpret older or unusual Guitar Pro features differently from the program that created the file.

Use a desktop notation and audio workflow

  1. Open the file in a compatible version of Guitar Pro or in the free desktop application TuxGuitar. If it is not recognized, try software that explicitly supports Guitar Pro 1 and 2 files.
  2. Check the score before rendering, including tempo, repeats, tunings, muted tracks, instrument assignments, and effects.
  3. Export the notation as MIDI using File → Export → MIDI, and save it as song.mid.
  4. Render the MIDI file through a synthesizer and a General MIDI-compatible SoundFont. For example, FluidSynth can create a WAV file with fluidsynth -ni -F song.wav -r 44100 soundfont.sf2 song.mid.
  5. Encode the rendered WAV file with FFmpeg: ffmpeg -i song.wav -codec:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k song.mp3.

Replace soundfont.sf2 with a SoundFont installed on the computer. Use 192 kbps for general listening; use 256 or 320 kbps when a higher-quality MP3 is needed. Keep the WAV until the MP3 has been checked.

Quality and compatibility limits

GTP stores notation and playback data, not a definitive instrument tone. Guitar Pro, TuxGuitar, and MIDI synthesizers can produce different results, particularly for bends, slides, harmonics, palm muting, drums, repeats, grace notes, and proprietary effects.

MIDI export may omit unsupported notation or alter track behavior, and the chosen SoundFont determines much of the audible character. MP3 encoding cannot preserve editable notes, tablature, or the original performance, so keep the original .gtp file for future editing.
