A .gp5 score must be rendered to audio when a phone, car stereo, messaging service, audio editor, or playlist cannot open Guitar Pro tablature. The resulting MP3 is a playable mix of the score, not an editable tab file.
GP5 and MP3 formats
GP5 is the native document format of Guitar Pro 5. It stores tablature and standard notation for guitar, bass, drums, and other tracks, plus note durations, tempo changes, repeats, dynamics, bends, slides, instrument assignments, and other playback instructions; it does not contain recorded audio.
Guitar Pro 5 created GP5 files, and current Guitar Pro releases can open them. TuxGuitar can also import many GP5 files, although older effects, playback settings, and some notation elements may not be interpreted identically.
MP3 is a lossy compressed audio format containing rendered sound samples. It is widely supported by media players and requires less storage than WAV, but it cannot retain separate score tracks, notation, or editable notes.
Convert a GP5 file to MP3

Playback and quality limits
The MP3 quality is limited first by the synthesizer, soundbank, or instrument model used during rendering. A GP5 file contains score instructions, so guitars, drums, and effects may sound different in Guitar Pro, TuxGuitar, and an online renderer even when the notes are the same.
Use about 192 kbps for ordinary practice and sharing files. Use 320 kbps or a high-quality variable-bitrate setting when minimizing MP3 compression artifacts matters; it cannot add detail absent from the rendered source.
MP3 is lossy, so avoid repeatedly converting one MP3 into another lossy format. Keep the original .gp5 file for notation edits and retain a WAV export if the rendered audio will be mixed, edited, or encoded again.
