Convert IPN to IPT

Understanding IPN and IPT file formats

IPN files are Autodesk Inventor Presentation files, primarily used to create exploded views, animations, and assembly instructions for 3D models. These files are often used to visually communicate assembly or disassembly processes.

IPT files are Autodesk Inventor Part files. Each IPT file contains a single 3D part model, which can be used as a building block in larger assemblies (IAM files) or presentations (IPN files).

Can you convert IPN to IPT?

Direct conversion from IPN to IPT is not typically supported, as these formats serve different purposes within Autodesk Inventor. An IPN file references existing IPT (part) and IAM (assembly) files to create presentations, but does not contain standalone part geometry itself.

If you need to extract a part from an IPN presentation, you must locate the original IPT file referenced by the IPN. There is no automated tool that converts an IPN file into a new IPT file, since IPN files do not store part geometry.

How to extract parts from an IPN file

2. Identify the part you wish to extract. Right-click the part in the browser panel.
3. Select Open or Open in New Window to open the referenced IPT file.
4. Save or export the IPT file as needed.

If you want to create a new part based on the presentation, you can use Inventor's modeling tools to create a new IPT file and manually recreate or derive geometry as needed.
