A receiving program, upload service, or device may accept a fixed image but reject an HTML file. Converting the page to JPEG preserves its rendered appearance for sharing or archiving, but not its links, scripts, or editable markup.

What the HTML format is

What the JPEG format is

JPEG is a raster image format that normally uses lossy compression and the .jpg or .jpeg extension. It produces relatively small files for photographs, screenshots, and pages containing continuous-tone graphics. JPEG stores pixels rather than HTML structure, so the result has no selectable text, hyperlinks, forms, scripts, animation, or transparency. Repeated JPEG encoding can add visible compression artifacts.

2. Upload the .html or .htm file. If the page uses local images, stylesheets, fonts, or scripts, provide the associated files in the format requested by the converter, such as a ZIP archive.
3. Select JPEG as the output format and start the conversion.

Render locally with Chromium and ImageMagick

Local rendering avoids uploading private files and gives repeatable control over the browser viewport and image quality.

1. Open the HTML file in Chromium and verify that all resources load. Use correct absolute paths or serve the folder through a local web server when CSS, images, fonts, or scripts fail under a file:// URL.
2. Capture the rendered viewport as a lossless PNG. In Chromium-based browsers, use the browser’s screenshot tools or run:

Use the executable name installed on the system, such as google-chrome or chrome, when chromium is unavailable. Change --window-size to control the viewport; a full-page capture requires the full-page option supported by the installed Chromium version or separate captures for long pages.

3. Encode the PNG as JPEG with ImageMagick:

The white background replaces transparent areas because JPEG cannot store an alpha channel. ImageMagick is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux; older installations may use convert instead of magick.

Quality and compatibility limits

• Set the viewport before rendering. A narrow width can activate responsive CSS and produce a mobile layout instead of the intended desktop layout.
• Increase the screenshot dimensions or device scale factor when small text must remain readable. Raising JPEG quality cannot restore detail missing from a low-resolution capture.
• External resources, web fonts, JavaScript-generated content, videos, and animations may be absent if they are blocked, load after the screenshot, or require user interaction. Wait for the page to finish rendering before capture.
• JPEG can create halos and block artifacts around text, lines, and sharp borders. Choose PNG for precise screenshots, diagrams, interface text, or transparency.
• A long page becomes one JPEG only when the conversion captures the full document; a normal viewport screenshot contains only the visible area. Use PDF when the requirement is multiple pages, selectable text, links, or print-oriented layout.
