Free online EML to JPEG converter

A mail client, report system, or device that cannot open email files may require a static image of a message for viewing or sharing. Converting the message renders its visible content as a picture; it does not preserve an editable email or its original structure.

What the EML format is

.eml is a plain-text email file containing headers, sender and recipient information, dates, subject data, message content, and MIME-encoded parts. It can contain a plain-text body, an HTML body, inline images, linked resources, and file attachments.

Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Windows Live Mail, and mail-server export tools can create or save EML files. Individual messages are commonly exported for transfer between compatible mail applications, evidence collection, backup, or offline access.

What the JPEG format is

JPEG, identified by .jpg or .jpeg, is a raster image format that uses lossy compression. It produces relatively small files and opens in web browsers, phones, image editors, office applications, and most document-management systems.

JPEG works well for a visual copy of a message intended for screen viewing or sharing. It does not retain email headers, MIME parts, hyperlinks, attachments, selectable text, or message structure. Because compression can blur small characters, PDF or PNG may be better when text clarity, searchability, or multi-page layout matters.

How to convert EML to JPEG

Using 101convert.com

1. Open the EML-to-JPEG converter on 101convert.com.
2. Select Choose file and open the .eml file, or drag it into the upload area.
3. Start the conversion and wait for the message to be rendered.
4. Download the resulting .jpg file. A message that spans multiple pages may produce several JPEG files or an archive containing them.

This free method does not require software installation. Do not upload confidential messages if your organization prohibits sending them to an online service, and retain the original .eml file when its headers, attachments, or evidentiary value matter.

Using desktop software and a PDF intermediate

1. Open the EML file in Mozilla Thunderbird or another mail application that displays its HTML layout.
2. Choose File → Print and select a PDF printer or PDF export option. Enable background graphics if the message uses colored backgrounds or embedded images.
3. Convert the PDF pages to JPEG with an image application or Poppler's pdftoppm command. For example, use pdftoppm -jpeg -r 150 message.pdf message to create files such as message-1.jpg, one per PDF page.
4. Crop margins or resize the resulting images in an image editor if necessary. Keep separate page images when preserving readability is more important than producing one long image.

Printing to PDF is generally more complete than taking a screenshot because it can include the full printed message across several pages. A screenshot is suitable only for a visible portion of the message and can omit headers, clipped content, or parts below the screen. External images may also be absent if the mail application did not download them.

Quality and compatibility limits

Use about 150–200 DPI for ordinary screen viewing and 300 DPI when small text must remain readable in print. If the conversion tool exposes a JPEG quality value, about 85% is a practical starting point; higher quality reduces artifacts but increases file size.

JPEG cannot provide selectable or searchable text. Use PDF for multi-page messages, OCR when text inside an image must be searchable, and the original EML for archival, legal, or forensic purposes. File attachments are normally not included as separate files in the rendered JPEG; download and convert them independently. Inline images may appear if the mail client or converter can load them.
