Convert BDB2 to PDF

Skillpipe course material may need to become a PDF when it must be printed, shared with someone who does not use Skillpipe, or archived outside the reader. The reliable method is to print the permitted course pages from Skillpipe Reader; renaming .bdb2 to .pdf does not convert the file.

What the BDB2 format is

.bdb2 is a proprietary Skillpipe Reader course-data format associated with Skillpipe content. It is not a standard document or database format that LibreOffice, Adobe Acrobat, or generic file converters can interpret reliably. The file may contain protected course content and reader data rather than a complete, independently printable document.

Use the Skillpipe Reader or the Skillpipe account and application supplied with the course. A BDB2 file may not open as a standalone file if it requires an account, a course license, or content downloaded by the reader.

What the PDF format is

PDF stores a fixed page layout that can be viewed and printed on different operating systems. It is suitable for sharing and archiving a selected course view, and a text-based PDF may support searching and copying. It does not preserve Skillpipe navigation, licensing controls, bookmarks, progress, interactive exercises, or the original reader’s editable content structure.

How to create a PDF from BDB2 content

Print from Skillpipe Reader

1. Open the course through Skillpipe Reader or the authorized Skillpipe account. Do not work on the only copy of any downloaded course data.
2. Open the chapter or page that the license permits you to print. If available, use the reader’s print or print-preview command rather than printing a screen capture.
3. Choose File → Print, the reader’s print button, or the browser’s print command.
4. Select Microsoft Print to PDF on Windows, Save as PDF in the macOS print dialog, or a configured PDF printer on Linux.
5. Set the permitted page range, paper size, orientation, margins, scale, and background graphics. Preview the pages, then save to a new filename ending in .pdf.

Skillpipe or the course publisher may disable printing or limit it to individual pages. The generated PDF may contain a watermark with the authorized user’s name; this is expected output and should not be removed.

When Skillpipe is unavailable

There is no generally reliable desktop utility or reputable online service that converts an unknown BDB2 file directly into a usable PDF. LibreOffice Base, Adobe Acrobat, hex editors, and file-renaming tools cannot reconstruct protected Skillpipe content. Ask the course provider or sender for an authorized PDF or for a standard export such as .pdf, .html, or .docx.

For a supplied .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx export, LibreOffice can create a PDF with File → Export as PDF. Adobe Acrobat online and CloudConvert can convert supported office files through a browser, but they cannot reliably decode BDB2 directly. Do not upload licensed course files, personal information, or confidential material to an online service unless its terms and the content license permit it.

Quality and compatibility limits

The PDF contains only the pages and range selected during printing. It will not retain course searches, progress tracking, interactive media, embedded assessments, reader annotations, or content that was not rendered in the print view. Video, audio, animations, dynamic links, and restricted pages may be absent or nonfunctional.

Inspect the PDF for clipped text, missing images, incorrect page breaks, unreadable scaling, missing special characters, and blank pages. Use the reader’s print preview, choose a larger paper size or landscape orientation for wide pages, and print smaller sections when fitting everything onto one page makes the text too small. Retain the original authorized course access because the PDF is a static derivative, not a replacement for the BDB2 data or Skillpipe license.
