What the S2DB format is

S2DB is a proprietary database format associated primarily with Sony SonicStage, the discontinued music-management application used with Sony Walkman and ATRAC devices. SonicStage creates S2DB files to store library indexes and metadata, including song titles, artists, albums, playlists, device information, and file locations.

You usually encounter S2DB files in an old SonicStage installation or backup rather than as standalone files intended for direct editing. The database may depend on related SonicStage files, so copying only one S2DB file can leave references unresolved.

What the MDB format is

MDB is the Microsoft Access database format used by Access versions through Access 2003 and supported for compatibility by later versions. It stores tables, relationships, indexes, queries, forms, reports, and sometimes attached objects.

MDB is useful when the converted catalog must be inspected in Microsoft Access, queried with SQL, joined to other Access tables, or opened by software that supports the Jet database engine.
