What the EMMX format is

EMMX is the native document format used by EdrawMind, formerly known as MindMaster, for mind maps, organizational diagrams, flowcharts, and related visual plans. It can preserve nodes, connectors, themes, notes, attachments, and editable layout data. You typically encounter it when someone sends an EdrawMind project or when an EdrawMind installation saves a map for later editing.

What the WEBP format is

WEBP is a raster image format intended mainly for websites and digital sharing. It usually produces smaller files than PNG or JPEG at comparable visual quality and supports both lossy and lossless compression, plus transparency.

WEBP is suitable for embedding a finished diagram in a web page, sending a preview, or storing a compact visual reference. It does not retain EMMX nodes, connectors, layers, notes, or other project structure.

How to convert EMMX to WEBP

Using the built-in converter

1. Open the EMMX-to-WEBP converter on 101convert.com; it runs without installing desktop software.
2. Choose or drop the .emmx file into the upload area.
3. Select WEBP as the output format and start the conversion.
4. Download the resulting .webp image and check that small labels, connectors, and page boundaries remain legible.

Using EdrawMind and ImageMagick

Use this route when the source file needs adjustment before rasterization or when direct conversion is unavailable:

1. Open the file in EdrawMind.
2. Use File → Export → Image and export a high-resolution PNG. If the installation offers SVG export, SVG can preserve diagram sharpness before rasterization.
3. Convert the exported image with ImageMagick:

For an SVG source, use magick diagram.svg -background white -quality 85 diagram.webp. Replace the white background with -background none when transparent output is required and the source contains no elements that depend on a solid background.

Quality, compatibility, and limitations

WEBP output is a flattened image, so converting it back cannot restore EMMX editability. Use PNG or lossless WEBP for thin connectors, small text, and diagrams with flat colors; lossy WEBP at quality 80–90 is usually smaller but can add ringing around text and lines.

Export at a larger pixel size than the final display size if the map contains dense labels. Very large maps may become difficult to read as one image; exporting selected pages or branches separately can produce more usable files. Transparent WEBP support depends on the target application, so use a solid background when the image must work in older viewers or document systems.
