Free online TTC to TTF converter

Some font editors, older devices, and application importers accept only a standalone font file, while the source is a multi-font TTC collection. Converting it extracts the required face as a TTF so it can be installed, edited, transferred, or archived independently.

What the TTC format is

TTC means TrueType Collection. It stores multiple related font faces in one file, such as regular, bold, italic, or language-specific faces, while allowing them to share identical font data. Windows and macOS system fonts, Microsoft Office, Adobe software, and East Asian font packages commonly use TTC files; msyh.ttc and malgun.ttc are typical examples.

A TTC is a container of separate font records, not a variable font. Each record can have its own family name, style, metrics, and glyph coverage. Windows and macOS can use TTC files directly, so conversion is not generally required just to install a font on either operating system.

What the TTF format is

TTF normally contains one standalone font face with its outlines, metrics, naming information, and OpenType tables. It has broad support in Windows, macOS, Linux, design applications, game engines, and embedded devices. A standalone file is easier for software that cannot browse a collection and for tools that require one font face per file.

Extracting a collection does not produce one TTF equivalent to the original TTC. It produces one TTF for each selected face. TTF is also not automatically the best web format; web projects commonly use WOFF2 after checking licensing and browser requirements.

How to convert TTC to TTF

Using FontTools

FontTools provides a reliable local extraction method and exposes every face in the collection.

1. Install Python 3.
2. Install FontTools with python -m pip install fonttools. If Python 3 is invoked as python3, use python3 -m pip install fonttools.
3. Place the TTC in a working folder and save this script there as extract_ttc.py:

4. Replace input.ttc with the actual filename.
5. Run python extract_ttc.py, or python3 extract_ttc.py where required.
6. Inspect the generated files to identify the required family, style, language coverage, and glyph rendering. The numeric filenames do not reliably indicate which face is regular or bold.

To extract a face graphically, open the collection in FontForge, select the required face, then use File → Generate Fonts and choose TrueType. FontForge menu behavior can vary by version, and some collections or protected fonts may not open cleanly.

Using the built-in online converter

You can convert the file on 101convert.com for free without installing software: upload the TTC, choose TTF, start the conversion, and download the result. Use the local FontTools method instead for confidential, licensed, or restricted fonts, and verify that the service returns the specific face you need.

Quality and compatibility limitations

Check every extracted face rather than assuming the first output is the regular style. FontTools generally preserves outlines, naming data, metrics, and glyph tables, but extraction removes collection-level sharing and can change table ordering or checksums without changing normal rendering.

A TTC can contain OpenType faces with CFF outlines as well as faces with TrueType outlines. Inspect the saved font’s sfntVersion: \"\u0000\u0001\u0000\u0000\" indicates TrueType outlines, while OTTO indicates CFF/CFF2 OpenType data. An OTTO font saved with a .ttf extension is not a true TrueType-outline font; rename it to .otf and use software that supports OpenType CFF. Changing the extension does not convert the outline format.

Some vendor-supplied fonts contain licensing restrictions, name-table assumptions, or platform-specific behavior. Check the font in its target application and preserve the original TTC. Copyright, embedding permissions, and redistribution rights remain governed by the font license after extraction.
