Understanding PE4 and UFP file formats

PE4 files are embroidery design files created by Brother's PE-Design software, commonly used for programming embroidery machines. These files contain stitch data, color information, and design layout for embroidery projects.

UFP files are embroidery design files used by the Drawings embroidery software, developed by DRAWstitch. UFP files store vector-based embroidery designs, stitch patterns, and color information, and are compatible with a range of embroidery machines that support the Drawings platform.

How to convert PE4 to UFP

Direct conversion between PE4 and UFP is not natively supported by most embroidery software, as these formats are proprietary to their respective platforms. However, you can use a two-step process:

1. Open the PE4 file in Brother PE-Design software.
2. Export the design to a common embroidery format such as PES or DST via File → Export.
3. Open the exported file in Drawings (DRAWstitch) software.
4. Save or export the design as a UFP file using File → Save As or File → Export.
