Convert EDZ to ZW1

Understanding EDZ and ZW1 file formats

EDZ files are compressed project files created by EPLAN Electric P8, a popular electrical engineering design software. These files contain electrical schematics, project data, and related resources, making them essential for sharing and archiving EPLAN projects.

ZW1 files are project archives used by ZWCAD Electrical, a CAD software solution for electrical design. ZW1 files store drawings, project settings, and associated data, enabling easy transfer and backup of electrical projects within the ZWCAD ecosystem.

How to convert EDZ to ZW1

Direct conversion from EDZ to ZW1 is not natively supported by either EPLAN or ZWCAD. However, you can achieve this conversion through an intermediate step:

1. Open the EDZ file in EPLAN Electric P8.
2. Export the project drawings to DWG or DXF format using File → Export → DWG/DXF.
3. Launch ZWCAD Electrical and create a new project.
4. Import the exported DWG/DXF files into your new ZWCAD project using File → Import.
5. Once all drawings are imported and organized, save the project as a ZW1 file using File → Save As.

Recommended software for conversion

• EPLAN Electric P8 – for opening and exporting EDZ files.
• ZWCAD Electrical – for importing DWG/DXF files and saving as ZW1.

There are currently no online converters that support direct EDZ to ZW1 conversion due to the proprietary nature of both formats. Using the above method ensures the integrity of your project data during the transition.

• Some project-specific data or settings may not transfer perfectly between platforms. Manual adjustments may be required after import.
