What the ASCIIDOC format is

How to actually convert ASCIIDOC to TEX

1. Install Asciidoctor and Pandoc. Verify them with asciidoctor --version and pandoc --version.
2. Open a terminal in the directory containing the source file and generate DocBook XML:

3. Convert the XML to a standalone LaTeX source file:
   pandoc manual.xml --from=docbook --to=latex --standalone -o manual.tex
4. Compile the resulting file when a PDF is needed:
   pdflatex manual.tex
   Run the compiler twice if the document contains cross-references or a table of contents.

Quality and compatibility limits

Check image paths, character encoding, escaping, links, citations, table layout, and heading structure in the generated source.
