Android apps are usually distributed as APK files, the standard package format for the Android operating system. It is important to note that an Android app cannot usually be turned into a working Tizen app by simple file conversion. Android and Tizen use different runtimes, APIs, UI frameworks, and signing requirements.

Target format: TPK

TPK is the application package format used by Tizen, Samsung’s Linux-based operating system for devices such as smart TVs, wearables, and some older smartphones. A TPK package contains a Tizen app and its metadata, and it must be signed before installation on supported devices.

TPK is the native distribution format for Tizen apps. It is used for development, testing on emulators or devices, and deployment through Tizen tools or supported stores.

Can android be converted to tpk?

Not directly. There is no reliable one-click converter that transforms an Android APK into a fully functional TPK app. In practice, you usually port the app rather than convert it.

Some Tizen devices have supported an Android compatibility layer in certain versions or product lines, which can allow selected Android apps to run without conversion. However, this is device-specific and does not create a TPK file.

How to create a tpk from an android app

If you need a TPK version of an Android app, the usual workflow is to rebuild the app for Tizen using Tizen-supported technologies.

Recommended desktop toolchain: Tizen Studio from Samsung. It includes the IDE, emulator, device manager, and packaging/signing tools.

1. Install Tizen Studio on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
2. Install the SDK components for your target profile, such as TV, wearable, or another supported Tizen profile.
3. Create a new project in File → New → Tizen Project.
4. Choose the appropriate app type for your target device, such as Web, .NET, or C, depending on what the profile supports.
5. Recreate the Android app’s logic, UI, and assets in the Tizen project. Android Java or Kotlin code and Android-specific libraries generally cannot be reused directly.
6. Build and sign the package using Project → Build Signed Package or the equivalent packaging option in Tizen Studio.
7. Install the resulting .tpk on a Tizen emulator or connected device for testing.

What to do with apk files

If your goal is only to inspect or reuse assets from an APK, you can unpack it with tools such as APKTool or 7-Zip. This can help you extract images, layouts, and other resources for a manual port, but it does not convert the app into TPK format.

Online converters and alternatives

There are no reputable online converters that can truly convert Android apps to TPK while preserving functionality. Websites claiming instant APK-to-TPK conversion usually only rename files, extract assets, or produce unusable output.

If you need a working app on a Tizen device, the realistic options are:

• Port the app to Tizen and package it as .tpk.
• Use a device compatibility layer, if your specific Tizen device supports one.
• Find a native Tizen version of the app, if available.

Compatibility limits

APK-to-TPK conversion is not a format translation; it is usually a full application rewrite or port. Common compatibility issues include:

• Different APIs: Android SDK classes do not exist on Tizen.
• Different UI systems: Android layouts and widgets must be recreated for Tizen.
• Different signing and packaging: TPK requires Tizen certificates and packaging rules.
• Different device profiles: a Tizen TV app is not the same as a wearable app.

If you only need to inspect an Android app or reuse its resources, extract the APK first. If you need a real TPK, rebuild the app for Tizen and then package it with Tizen Studio.
