Free online SWF to HTML5 converter

Legacy Flash banners, training modules, games, and presentations no longer run in current browsers because Adobe Flash Player was discontinued. Moving the content to an HTML5 web package, or packaging it with a compatible runtime, allows it to be hosted and opened without a Flash plug-in.

What the SWF format is

SWF is Adobe Flash's compiled delivery format. A SWF can contain vector and bitmap graphics, timeline animation, fonts, audio, video, buttons, and ActionScript code.

Web publishers, advertisers, e-learning providers, game developers, and presentation authors commonly exported .swf files from Flash Professional or Adobe Animate .fla projects. A SWF is usually compiled output, not an editable source file, so it cannot reliably be converted back into its original timelines, symbols, scripts, and assets.

Interactive SWFs may load external files, communicate with servers, use Flash components, or depend on ActionScript 1, 2, or 3. Those dependencies determine whether the result can be recreated as native browser content.

What HTML5 output contains

HTML5 is a set of web technologies, not one binary file type. A converted result normally includes an .html entry page, JavaScript, CSS, images, fonts, audio, video, and sometimes Canvas, SVG, or WebGL resources.

HTML5 content runs in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and mobile browsers without Flash Player. It can use standard browser input, responsive layouts, accessibility markup, and ordinary web hosting, subject to the browser's security policies.

Keep all generated files in their original folder structure. An HTML page often refers to scripts and media with relative paths, so moving only the .html file causes missing assets or failed scripts.

Converting an SWF file

Upload the SWF to the converter on 101convert.com, select HTML5 output, run the conversion, and download the result. If the download is a ZIP archive, extract the entire archive into one folder without renaming or relocating files.

Run the converted package from a local web server before publishing it. In a terminal opened in the output folder, run python -m http.server 8080, then open http://localhost:8080. Loading the page directly with a file:// URL can block scripts, fonts, JSON data, media, or network requests.

Test every scene, button, text field, animation, keyboard command, sound effect, video, resize behavior, and external link. A generated HTML5 package may reproduce visual timeline content while leaving interactive ActionScript functions unavailable or incomplete.

Using the original source project

If the original .fla file is available, use it instead of the compiled SWF. Open a copy in Adobe Animate and use Commands → Convert to Other Document Formats → HTML5 Canvas, then review File → Publish Settings and publish the converted document.

Adobe Animate can retain artwork, symbols, layers, and timeline data from the source project, but it does not automatically translate ActionScript into equivalent JavaScript. Replace unsupported components and rewrite interactive logic, data loading, storage, and server communication in JavaScript or another browser-compatible implementation.

When only the SWF is available

For preservation or low-redevelopment deployment, test the file with Ruffle, an open-source Flash emulator. A self-hosted Ruffle web package can load the original SWF in a browser, but it does not convert the SWF into editable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Use Ruffle when retaining the original Flash behavior is more practical than rebuilding it. Test the specific file carefully: compatibility depends on its ActionScript version, Flash APIs, external assets, and unsupported features.

Decompiled code can be incomplete, obfuscated, or difficult to maintain; recreate the interface and logic in JavaScript, Canvas, SVG, or a suitable web framework rather than treating extracted code as production-ready source.

Quality and compatibility limits

• No universal lossless conversion exists for interactive SWF files. Flash-specific APIs, compiled ActionScript, DRM, sockets, camera access, custom components, filters, masks, and blend modes may lack a direct browser equivalent.
• ActionScript does not execute natively in HTML5. Games, form processing, scores, XML or API loading, local storage, and custom controls may require redevelopment.
• External SWFs, media files, fonts, and server endpoints must remain available at the expected paths or be replaced. A format conversion cannot restore an unavailable backend service.
• Compare text rendering, embedded-font replacements, audio timing, video playback, touch controls, keyboard controls, masks, and scaling in the browsers and screen sizes used by the audience.
• Keep the original SWF, any .fla source, assets, and conversion output. Confirm that you have permission to extract, modify, host, or redistribute copyrighted Flash content.
