It seems Adobe InDesign has trouble importing QuarkExpress documents (.qxd files) properly or even at all and QuarkXpress does not support direct export to InDesign. This means that conversion between .qxd and .indd documents is pretty hard.
However, you can find some commercial (pretty expensive) plugins like Q2ID that allow users to import .qxd files properly to Adobe InDesigns, hence essentially achieving qxd to indd conversion.
