RAF (Raw Fujifilm) is a raw image format used by Fujifilm digital cameras, also designed to retain maximum image data for editing.

Why convert PEF to RAF?

Converting PEF to RAF is uncommon, as both are raw formats tailored to their respective camera brands. However, you might need to convert for compatibility with specific software or workflows that support RAF but not PEF.

How to convert PEF to RAF

Direct conversion between PEF and RAF is not natively supported by most software, as both formats are designed for different camera hardware. The typical workflow involves converting PEF to a more universal raw or high-quality format (like DNG or TIFF), then, if necessary, converting to RAF using specialized tools. However, note that converting to RAF may not preserve all original raw data and metadata.

Recommended software for conversion

• Adobe DNG Converter: Convert PEF to DNG, a universal raw format. Use Select Folder → Convert.
• IrfanView (with plugins): Open PEF and export to TIFF or JPEG via File → Save As.
• XnConvert: Batch convert PEF to TIFF or JPEG. Use Add files → Output → Convert.

There is no mainstream tool that converts directly from PEF to RAF. If RAF is required for a specific workflow, consider converting to TIFF or DNG first, then using a specialized tool or script to create a RAF file, though this is rarely necessary or recommended.

Important considerations
