P65 to pmd file conversion
Adobe PageMaker used different file extensions across versions, including .p65 and .pmd. In most cases, there is no separate converter for these formats. You normally open the file in the appropriate version of PageMaker and save it in the other format.
.p65 is typically associated with PageMaker 6.5, while .pmd is commonly associated with PageMaker 7. To move a document between them, you usually need the original Adobe PageMaker application or another compatible PageMaker version that can read the source file and save it in the target format.
Important: PageMaker is discontinued and no longer sold by Adobe. There is no official modern converter from .p65 to .pmd. If you need to work with these files, your options are limited to legacy installations, archived copies, or a system where PageMaker is already installed. Be careful with unofficial downloads.
If your goal is to preserve the content or layout rather than keep the PageMaker format, export to PDF from PageMaker if the file opens correctly. For editing in current software, you may try importing the document into a desktop publishing application that supports PageMaker files, but compatibility varies and formatting may not transfer perfectly.
Typical workflow:
- Open the
.p65file in the matching or newer version of PageMaker. - Use File → Save As or File → Save a Copy to create a
.pmdfile, if that option is available. - If the source version cannot save directly to
.pmd, open the file in PageMaker 7 and save it there.
Note: Compatibility between PageMaker versions is not always perfect. Missing fonts, linked images, or plug-ins can change the layout or prevent the file from opening correctly.
