Convert CNM to PMP

Understanding CNM and PMP file formats

CNM files are typically associated with NoteMap, a mind mapping and outlining software. These files store structured outlines, notes, and hierarchical data used for brainstorming and project planning. PMP files, on the other hand, are most commonly linked to Project Management Professional project files, often used by applications like Microsoft Project or PlanMaker. PMP files contain project schedules, tasks, resources, and timelines.

Why convert CNM to PMP?

Converting a CNM file to a PMP format allows users to transfer their mind maps or outlines into a project management environment. This enables better task tracking, resource allocation, and timeline management, making it easier to move from brainstorming to actionable project plans.

How to convert CNM to PMP

There is no direct, universal converter for CNM to PMP due to the proprietary nature of both formats. However, you can use the following workflow:

1. Open your CNM file in NoteMap.
2. Export the outline to a more common format such as File → Export → CSV or File → Export → TXT.
3. Open Microsoft Project or PlanMaker.
4. Import the exported CSV or TXT file using File → Open or File → Import and select the appropriate mapping for tasks and hierarchy.
5. Save the project as a PMP file using File → Save As → PMP.

Recommended software for conversion

• NoteMap – for exporting CNM files to CSV or TXT.
• Microsoft Project – for importing outlines and saving as PMP.
• PlanMaker (from SoftMaker Office) – as an alternative for handling PMP files.

Tips for a successful conversion

• Review the exported CSV or TXT file to ensure the outline structure is preserved.
• During import, carefully map columns to project fields (task name, start date, etc.).
• After conversion, verify the project structure and make manual adjustments if necessary.
